superpants Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 i think that because weather plays such an important role in sailing, it should have a more dynamic and real mechanics and look. here are my suggestions: 1. wind direction should be moddled from real life patterns, not just shifting around in a circle. this could create trade routes/ prioritize some ports over others and have an interesting influence on the economy. 2. storms should move across the map, not just appear and disappear. 3. storms should have a more realistic appearance. sailing into a storm should be seen from miles away (towering dark cumulonimbus clouds) this could be used to evade attackers plus it would look really cool. thanks for reading. 2
TheAmerican Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Some decent points for sure. I really miss the stormy battles 2
NINTHTJ Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Would it be practical to have the weather mimicking real-life patterns? Could you not end up with a situation where some ports in the game are completely neglected due to weather patterns? Essentially, everyone would crowd around the ports with the favourable wind, and forget about the rest?

Technically they all just crowd in the capital or ports that hve compass wood waiting to teleport to a fight so it wouldn't change anything lol. 1
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Real life patterns on the caribbean are very very stable with little drastic variations except the hurricane season. As a general rule sail West through the South, and to the East through the Bahamas and then down the island chains. Given the "migration" patterns of players the time taken to sail anywhere would be tripled.
Dragonfire Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 With the weather patters in certain areas you forgot super storm's, Hurricanes ect. Want them to wipe out your nation's fleets also ? Large storms while trying to have a battle was just a very large pain as it at one point made it very difficult to even hit a ship period. Think frigate in a deep trough trying to hit a t Snow in another trough or sitting so high on a wave you cant even focus cannon on it you shoot water instead. Makes for a very frustrating drawn out battle that takes way too long and sucks the fun right out of it. Storms like they are now I can live with but kind of like when the storm use to "Chase you" so you sailed out of its way or got caught and you sailing speed dropped like 20% or so.

I think it would just force players to think about there decisions to attack or not attack more. Real life patterns on the caribbean are very very stable with little drastic variations except the hurricane season. As a general rule sail West through the South, and to the East through the Bahamas and then down the island chains. Given the "migration" patterns of players the time taken to sail anywhere would be tripled. changing the winds would change the migration patters of players. This would create more defined trade routes that could be targeted by hunters. It also could be loosely modeled off real life patters, allow for wind shifts that would enable more routes. I think the current wind is silly. There is no wind anywhere in the world that acts like it does in the game. Like i said initially: the weather plays a major role in sailing. I think it should in the game as well. The weather should have greater influence on in-game decision making. 1
kaboki Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Some decent points for sure. I really miss the stormy battles Agree, I also really miss the storms, gave a little diversety in battles and I never had any problems hitting things in a storm. It gave that little bit of extra challenge and fun, and it sure looked awsome. Now battles feels sterile and a little bit "boring" and removal of storms is one of the reasons I decided to take a break from the game.... Hope they get added back into the game.
themule08 Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Storms are fine cause damage to ship you have to repair on open sea. Do not slow my ship down on the sea though...already takes forever to sail anywhere!
