Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I'd prefer if moderators didn't have clan/unit signatures. I know, I know, moderators are players too and all that, but it just reeks of bias. Though probably unfounded, it does have that air about it..... This has been a topic of discussion behind the scenes.
Skully Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 (edited) This has been a topic of discussion behind the scenes. Why hide the facts? We all know a moderator is a player as well. If either side in a player - moderator interaction can't be unbiased over that fact, then there is a problem regardless of the signature. Or to rephrase, outside of "National News", we should wear no hats. Edited August 24, 2016 by Skully
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 It's easier to moderate when people do not know exactly who or what you are. We agree, moderators should moderate with an even hand, and we all check each other's actions (and frequently ask each other for feedback and another perspective) on a problem before taking action - it helps us to moderate as fairly as possible. 1

Which is how it should be. Moderators that do not moderate each other in a fair manner are a disease and need to go. I'm not saying that exists here, I have yet to see it, but I have seen it in other places and have seen communities die because the moderators form a "clique". So keep up the good work guys.

Wilson09 Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 (edited) I am Pagan Pete and I can confirm the complaint, both directly AND for a friend. Someone here made Little Willy cry Nah, I am fine man. Thx! >>It's called oppression when those consequences have no legitimate cause. >>gamelabs is based in the ukraine not the usa This statement made me cry. (one need to know that once I was engaged with a Ukraine woman long ago. Great time!) So if anyone want to insult Ukrainian because they believe Americans are any better in whatever respect, I need to fight back! I am fine, if mods handle it this way, it says there was a statement they did not like + reason given = perfect solution. Edited August 26, 2016 by Wilson09

Err, 90% (at least) of the moderation team resides in other than former-Soviet nations. What's your point? 1
Skully Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_gap It is cultural differences. And I think we have all been raised to believe our culture is the best. This belief will stick until you are exposed to a different culture. But how do we learn? Usually by trial and error. So we give offense and are offended as we try to learn another culture. And then we have two ways to deal with it, accept the potential offense or run amok. I don't see how we can discuss this on an international forum, the mods would be throwing out warning points left and right. So you really are a Kloothommel and since you claim it as a geuzennaam, you have legally asserted not to be offended. It is for non-Dutch mods impossible to judge whether I have offended Kloothommel with this honorific insult. When you add in a mod, you now have 3 parties who need to agree whether and how something is offending. The chances of agreement are 12.5%, pretty low right? So I think it is good for mods to highlight the potential offense, so we can learn and proceed. 1

That´s bullshit, sorry. They are humans and humans make mistakes. Basically, they are doing a good job. I don´t want to be exposed to all the b** coming out of player´s pens. Just imagine NO regulation? I don´t need another porn side. For my taste more deletion´d be welcome. As they cannot read all, it happens that some deletes/comments appear arbitrarily. Like in global chat. They hop onto it and "warn a player" being abusive (not knowing another guy started off earlier). GamesLabForums is a private house. And like in real life, I won´t enter a private house not knowing what I expect in there and if common rules of respect are being applied there... Edited August 28, 2016 by Wilson09 2
Wilson09 Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 (edited) >>WE are the members who make it a forum WE can undo that is a simple and equal way as they have done. Yeah sure. Programme your own game and / or run a private NAval Action forum with YOUR rules. Welcome! No one will be stopping you.... Edited August 28, 2016 by Wilson09

You have no rights, regardless of your locale, that deprive another of their right to private property. The forums are private property, and you must agree to the rules to continue to visit that property. You don't get to come into my home in the real world and curse at me or my family, or my other guests, because you have the "right to say what you want". I can, for example, tell you to "get out", and if you don't obey my wishes to leave, the Police will be by shortly to enforce my will with violence if necessary and forcefully remove you. If you're going to run around yelling about your "rights", you may want to first understand how the law actually works. 10

Chimera Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 stupidity does not seem to have a limit... some things i have read here, leave me speechless. I want to thank the mod team for an (in moste cases) marvelous job on the forum. It is a mostly unthankful job and they do it tirelessly. I envy your ability to keep calm and levelheaded with all that crap that is being thrown at you at times. 2
Jean Ribault Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 I have not seen anything inappropriate by the moderation team on this forum. They do a fine job IMHO, and only intercede when necessary to keep things on track and prevent a breakdown. They share responsibility and keep a good presence. I have been edited once, simply PM'd with the "why" and got a reasonable response, solved. Every single moderator action is a judgement call. Please remember that everyone judges differently. When there's a team that has time to discuss this, the judgements can sometimes be better. But remember these mods are frequently required to make on-the-fly calls without team support, so it is better for them to err on the side of caution to the betterment of the forum. My response to the question above is that I prefer to see an edit rather than a hide in most circumstances, but there are simply some flaming pointless irrelevant posts that need to be immediately hidden. 2

You have the right to say whatever you want, unless you are intending to be rude, crude, crass and toxic. Is that what you mean? (I don't believe you do.) We have paid for a GAME, not for open slather by people with personality disorders. They are better off on the psychologist's couch or in an insane asylum or nursing home if they have dementia.

The rules have nuances though that are hard to grasp unless you have deep understanding. http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/16146-pvp1-august-28th-1716-general-court-martial-of-komandør-fox2run/?p=307474 And not everyone signed up (/payed) knowing and understanding the implications of adhering to those rules. So it literally boils back to having different expectations of one-another. Know this and we are at the first step of learning one-another.
Captain Pickle Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 Rules are made to be broken the moderators are a clear show of that i never read the rules nor intend to i don't care for the rules set down by some people who don't enforce them properly my hopes it that these moderators be shown that it is not there right to disrupt everyone at THERE discretion my earlier comment was not to remove the ability permanently but to hand it back to the administrators so the forum can be start working properly i met some one in game slandering the forum and stating he was going through the steps of building his own one free of the madness that these moderators have created if that's not proof enough of there dictatorship then i don't know what is.
Haratik Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I take it you're new to the idea of forum moderation aren't you?
Powderhorn Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Please make your own forum that we don't have to moderate. Pretty please? 2
Skully Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Please make your own forum that we don't have to moderate. Pretty please? We already have https://www.reddit.com/r/NavalAction/comments/51et4l/moderators_please_read/ But that should not imply I don't like the NA Forums. They have their role and must definitely remain. But as I'm saying on the outside, it doesn't work, it must change.
Ragor Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 What are you even talking about? These are Game Labs private forums, not a US government controlled/funded property. There are no free speech rights on private property - these forums. The owner of the property can ask that you stop or be removed at any time. If you want to use the forums, you have to agree to follow the rules. QFT.
Prater Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Is this discussion all about because someone is mad they got chat banned or their post got edited? Well, maybe so. In case it is Captian Lord Tridax - he has been banned for 7 days due to multiply chat abuse reports. Once the duration of ban is completed, he will be able to use chat again. Any future discussions of this case (e.g. Captain wants to know the reasons) must be done here
