Ports are supposed to be safe places to dock, anchor and sortie from.   Yet in this game players (pirates famous for it at La Tortue PVP2) can circle around a port spawn location waiting to gank a player who spawns in.    There is not set up, positioning or ability to raise sails before you are yanked into a battle by players who obviously are gaming the game.    Circled around all sides as the battle begins  The devs need to provide for a better situation.  No targeting with int 3000 yards of any port

I would say that blockading a port is a historically legitimate stratagem, so creating a zone that refuses taregting would feel odd (well, to me it would).

I see angriff's point, though, in that no captain with his wits about him would venture forth from a port blockaded by a superior enemy force. So if we could see - while in the port screen - a short-hand list of the ships outside of the port, that could provide a remedy:

Like, within a radius of x (where x equals e.g. twice the attack radius around the spawn point), so much BR of nation XYZ is present.

I Like this idea very much, as a blockaded port can be somewhat of an inconvenience for traders and such.

In the same regard if people are looking for PvP against a particular faction, it would alert everyone in the area that, there are indeed people perhaps wanting fights.

Calling for reinforcements is futile, if they are not already there, in OW, close to battle they can't join [full stop]

When you pop out of Port the game gives you 30 seconds to achieve situational awareness by clicking every boat in sight before your set sail. This is a gamble if the weather is bad, so roll tthe dice I say, but if it is clear then you owe it to your ship, crew and cargo to do a perimeter sweep while you can still pop back to safety. If you can't be bothered to do that the lesson is earned, albeit a hard one.

I think it would be reasonable to include a very small invulnerability radius around the dock.  Nothing remotely close to the size of capital reinforcement zones; just enough to barely cover the spawn point.  I visualize ships sitting in port watching the wind, seeing the blockaders and resigned to being unable to move for the time being.  But at least being able to see it, rather than guess from the port UI.

Up the entrance timer from 30 sec. to 90 seconds. If there is a blockadge then they can move back and forth outside the port and try to catch the ships as they try to escape through the blockade. The standing and waiting in port for a pop into the OW to snatch is crap.

You pop in and once you see what it around you, you've lost about 15 seconds. Set sail and lose a few more and at best you 9 seconds of safe movement. Total HS.

If I do not have the time to see and view every ship in line of sight, I pop back into port. If I have to do this a couple of times in a row, well I am gone. There is no reason to be online if I cannot even get out of port. There are many things to do in this game, and I will not participate if entering the OW requires me to be some a$$'s battle-bitch just because they are too lazy to sail for a target and have to sit on my front porch to fight.

Ports weren't blockaded at extremely close range. Land based guns could lob roundshot and heated shot 2 miles or more.

If ships could take damage on the open world, if ports fired upon ships that strayed too close, then maybe.
