Nationals can never join "whatever side" pirates in a battle.

Was not a great mechanic due to unwanted behavior exploits.

You mean bashing the National as soon so as he joined by Pirates of both sides?

As Pirates we can join any nation in a open battle, we go into the join circle we want and join.

For nationals can not join pirates. They could before on the offended side only.

Meaning many would attack each other to run from fights.

Nationals did this as well with the smuggler flag.

Now everyone everywhere is in the same level play...it seems.

I think we are all hoping to end the Era of battle timer and join circles, however...

Here-be-Trouble

Who do we pull to which side?

If a French tags a Danish and an Independent/Pirate sail next to them. On whose side does the Independent/Pirate end up?

Or if two Clans decide to go to war, but they are allied on Nations, whose side gets the other Nationals sailing along?

As for Outlaws, they can be considered 1 man Clans.

I think the only solution is having a multi-sided battle in which each Clan forms a side. Then let the RoE stances dictate who you are allowed to shoot.

However, the notion of a 2 sided battle (with just 2 flags) is deeply ingrained into the engine.

It only knows two teams: "Left" and "Right". :)

And this notion goes far back.

There is also a post from admin in which he states a problem determining winners in a multi-sided battle, but I can't find it anymore.

So first admin has to be convinced to take a look. Then after the look and realization of complexities, we'll have to convince him to take another look. :D

And then hopefully devs will be able to address this "shortcoming" of the combat engine.
