Destraex Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I have old sea dogs that want to play at their own slow pace asking me if they can play solo or coop vs AI.... Will this be possible? I imagine in the open world some ships will be NPC? 1
Destraex Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 Yeah a lot of the age of sail fans are the sorts that love to sit down and relax without worrying about real people around them online rather than get the heart pumping. So hopefully there is something for them. 1
RedWhiteYellow Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 I am one of those bizzare folks who still play the Akella 2003 PoTC i just love to sail against AI i also like co op but have not played competitively for a few years now i got to world #1 on a couple of games and then bowed out pvp is just not for me anymore.
Mirones Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 the biggests challange is geting the Ai done properly atm i dont think it will be to enjoyable with curretn bots geting stuck in the wind all the time.
Leviathan Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 I think that there should be a variety of NPC ships with strong AI for those that want it. If done properly it could provide some very fun and challenging battles. I enjoy PvP but occasionally I like to just sail around and attack NPC's granted there is a reason to attack them. This would also help expand the player base to those who want a more casual experience on their own time.
Kozu Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 This is a topic very close to my heart. I much prefer battling against AI and generally shun PVP in most games. A Coop mode or world that I could sail freely on my own or with friends would be my ideal simulator. If the AI can be made at least half decent it will be necessarily quite challenging because I'm still not going to be able to comfortably take a 74 in a frigate no matter which way the wind blows. As long as there is enough progression in the game to keep it interesting (working your way from a man with a slab sided brig up to the top at land and sea would be a joy). Weather in particular could be used to present a more immersive and challenging experience to both aspects of the game. I fairly long to go scudding along under almost bare poles. Dreaming of repeating the antarctic chase in Patrick O'Brians Desolation island but i get carried away 1

caldrin Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I am the other way around I tend to get bored fighting against npcs all the time I enjoy PVP a lot more.. hopefully there will be a nice mix.
BungeeLemming Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Since there will be a kind of convoy system I can see players trying to loot such. We dont know by now but at least the trader ships will be NPCs. Huge indianmen were heavily armed wich means if you sink the escort its not automatically garanteed to loot the ships. I guess its all about the way to implement NPCs. Without such the open world will be empty. But not overcrowded like POTBS is.
trindade Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I am the other way around I tend to get bored fighting against npcs all the time I enjoy PVP a lot more.. hopefully there will be a nice mix. I like PvP as well but sometimes PvE (with good AI's and a good career/campaign mode) can be an immersive and relaxing experience. After all with these stunning graphics will be difficult not to get distracted during a game! I've hope that in the future the Devs will give some love to a SP mode.
Edward Vernon Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 PvP sure and probably for me the key element of the game, no matter how good the AI a good "live" player should win at least 90% of the time providing no mistakes are made. On the other hand PvE would offer the chance to hone one's skills and try new ideas against less challenging opposition. A mix of the two for me please.....
Mirones Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 ussaly from what we seen the AI allways hits and needs no rangefinding and they make same damage as you if you get outnumbered your done no tricks or anything
Edward Vernon Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 hmmm....no RNG on the AI? So they always hit without having to rangefind first? I better get myself out with the Pressgang and find me some shit-hot gunners then
Mirones Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 well if you get used to the rangefinding you are just shoting and hiting without tracking shots. 1
Saintduiex Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 well if you get used to the rangefinding you are just shoting and hiting without tracking shots.I agree, much more skill required without the range finder. Especially in rough weather in one of the smaller ships. What would be a good compromise?
Mirones Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 none normaly it take not much time to get used to the range you are fighting you are guessing the distance by the height of the enemy masts on your screen for example.
admin Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 AI will be improved - there will be a range of npc enemies with diverse skill level on release. What you can't teach them is how to be brave. PvE vs PvP is an eternal debate. Our current position is that PvP have to be consensual - by sailing into lawless waters you give your consent to fight. Unlike other games we will also provide tools for players to provide serious challenge to those who want to attack you. 4
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 PvP is awesome, but not when I'm in a mood to have a relaxed sail and clear the guns a little. Very happy to hear about that model Admin - it's one that I have very much enjoyed in Eve all these years.
