The truth is out there.

First of all, I'm often believed to be Scully, so let it be said there is no truth in that statement.

Onto the case of the Price of Crew.

The best way to obtain crew is though Large Medkits. These will give you back 150 crew.

So lets analyze two case of crafting Medkits:

Medkit Large Blueprint

\ Labor: 40

\ Food Supplies: 120

| \ Labor: 40

| \ Fish Meat: 200

| | \ Gold: 13400

| \ Salt: 50

| | \ Gold: 2500

\ Rum: 30

| \ Labor: 10

| \ Barrels: 2

| | \ Labor: 2

| | \ Iron Ingots: 2

| | | \ Labor: 10

| | | \ Coal: 20

| | | | \ Gold: 144

| | | | \ Labor: 4

| | | \ Iron Ore: 20

| | | | \ Gold: 888

| | | | \ Labor: 4

| | \ Planks: 10

| | | \ Labor: 10

| | | \ Oak Log: 10

| | | | \ Gold: 156

| | | | \ Labor: 3

| | \ Tar: 2

| | | \ Labor: 30

| | | \ Fir Log: 10

| | | | \ Gold: 96

| | | | \ Labor: 3

| \ Sugar: 8

| | \ Gold: 800

| | \ Labor: 2

\ Tobacco: 30

| \ Gold: 4000

| \ Labor: 8

===

Total Gold: 21984

Total Labor: 166

In this case I went for a fully crafted/produced Medkits. The price does not go above $21984 (excl. Labor), boiling down to $147/crew.

Note that the highest cost was the Fish Meat for $13400, which the system has listed at $67/p. I think it's not that hard to find cheaper fish. ;)

One could argue about the Labor cost, but that constitutes payment for the crafter putting in his hour commodity.

More on this later.

The next case is crafting only the final step:

Medkit Large Blueprint

\ Labor: 40

\ Food Supplies: 120

| \ Gold: 30000

\ Rum: 30

| \ Gold: 3150

\ Tobacco: 30

| \ Gold: 15000

===

Total Gold: 48150

Total Labor: 40

Again the prices used are the ones listed in the system. You should be able to get it cheaper.

Even paying top gold and charging $100/hour you would get your crew at $350.

And there is a lot of variations in between these two extremes, which I'll not cover.

Now where is the paranormal activity in this story?

Say someone craft medkits and start selling them in an enemy port for say $45000.

http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/15026-pvp1-july-tobbies-tobacco-imperium/?p=279035

The base cost of goes into the money sink, forever to disappear.

The profit however sticks to the person selling the medkits.

Ergo you have money flowing out of one nation into the pockets of another.

I would therefore say, we don't have a paranormal phenomena here. But rather a case of potential economic warfare.

To conclude, there is no case for the high price of crew.

And thus Scully Skully debunks another case.

LH are too few and too precious in game to waste them doing med kits or in production buildings for me and no way i do like many do and buy multiples "slaves" alt accounts

What is worth one LH ? i might say 100 some might say more, LH contracts at NPC price bring them down to 125/LH at sell price, NPC prices for NPC ships seems to make them worth 18 gold only for some of them ...

The Med kits prices and food supplies goes down with each new player entering in this market, up to the point it won't be interesting anymore to sell them and just do what they need for personal use then put them LH at better use.

What will i pay for crew , simply what i can afford to put in this, when i will not be able to afford crew i will sail smaller ships only, i need to keep gold to buy materials and other stuff, i won't sink a good part of my gold in this, hopefully i don't care for bigger ships and can enjoy the game in smaller ones so not a big issue for me in the end.

Food supplies market and med kits onces will go down the more we will progress, it has already started.

Also, take into account that you have to create several buildings to craft cheap the medkits.

Not sure how it works for everyone but i get food/fish for free just for playing i get rum for free from capping ai trade ships and have found a port that has pretty cheap tobacco.

My medkits cost next to nothing to make and are seldom needed so ive got a surplus of 9 large. Its possible the devs expect a compromise between 3 buildings to make and 0 and that way cost is still low.
