Does cargo weight slow a ship down?  Running a fully loaded LGV it doesn't seem to impact the overall speed.  In battle does the weight have any impact on speed or turn and overall speed?  Also I would have thought the roll should reduce.  Does it?

Also another observation for this question: I don't see any difference in draft of the trade ships either.  Using the example of the OP, even a fully loaded LGV which can enter some of the shallow ports in the game, can enter in the same fashion fully loaded.  For you Brits, we'll call it draught, lol.

Visually it would be nice to see fully loaded trader ships sitting low in the water to make it worth attacking them.  At the moment there doesn't seem to be any outward indication ships are low in the water in OW.

You might want to try with a friend IF the time to pickup to speed ( acceleration ) and no so much the top speed, between a empty and a fully laden one is different. Try a duel with traders :)

Next you might want to do the same and test the roll.

Try to use exact same setups.

What about draft?  Can I get into some of those marginal shallow water ports with a fully loaded LGV if the cannons are eliminated?

I would wildly guess the ships are built with a cargo mass or weight shift ( like guns discharge ) calculations in mind. Well some didn't and proved to be very unstable.

Guess NA serves the age of sail building parameters nicely.

cargo weight should slow down traders but it doesn't currently. I don't even think it affects accelaration either. This item needs to be addressed sooner then later.

Yeah no draft changes either. If you can get in empty you will get in fully loaded.

Traders were slowed a few patches ago, I suspect part of the justification was due to cargo.

I've not read any patch notes that say such things? Either way I hope for cargo to affect speed in game.

I have not tested in the last 3 patches...but assuming no unannounced change, I tested speed and acceleration with a fully loaded and empty (with and without cannons) trader/non trader.

Cannons effect (this was actually implemented) top speed but I could not detect a change in acceleration. This has now been verified and is visible in game (when you add cannons you see a speed modifier on the float over).

Contents of hull had no effect on top speed and as far as I could tell, no effect on acceleration or de-acceleration.

You cannot take a deep draft ship through shallows, so for example an LGV into pedro cay, but there are some (I know of two) shallow water ports that have no shallows around them...not sure if this is bug or just anomoly. so Tantum Cuzamil, a shallow water port, can house deep water ships.

An LGV can enter many shallow ports, loaded or not.
