Skully Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Almost spilled your coffee there Henry. It is not an exploit, yet. Can everybody please stop suggestion XP/gold rewards for a surrender without taking into account damage farming? Thanks. As long as folks that actually do battle get rewarded, we should be fine. http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/15149-i-ganked-the-british-and-all-i-got-was-this-lousy-t-shirt/ 2
Guest Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Aren't there people already doing similar things with other means as well? E.g. reducing their crew to only 10 men, letting a fellow pirate/contraband player cap them for the gold/xp reward and then doing it all over again.

People can do "whatever they want" within the risk of losing all progress and assets. It is not a novelty. It has been done before, it is done everyday. Sooner or later it will happen and you login and everything is gone. 1
squedage Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 at the moment people are using the surrender mechanic to cheat people out of any exp/gold even in a real fight. being able to surrender when your ships is sinking out about to sink should not be allowed and that is what people are griping over. if i do enough damage to your ship that all its armor on 1 side is gone and you are sinking you should not be able to YOLO and surrender to keep me from getting nothing for all that fight
Skully Posted July 19, 2016 Author Posted July 19, 2016 If you sink a ship, you should get a kill/assist. If not, then there is a bug. Whether the guy surrenders or abandons ship or whatever is completely besides the issue.

It also keeps the other team from getting a kill/assist and you only get the damage exp/gold (which could amount to nothing if you leak sunk them) Edited July 20, 2016 by squedage

If you do not get a kill because I surrender then that is just the outcome we all live with.Yes there should be some reward for sinking my ship but not a full kill reward. We all take chances in this game whether we battle as warship, chase traders, sail in traders, setup outposts and buildings. There are no guarantee for the outcome you wish it to be. If that is what you want then play on the PvE server. The AI units do not surrender.
Qwolf Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Xp is gained through actual damage dealt and through Kill/assist/capture bonus right? Forcing a surrender should be worth as much XP/Gold as a kill. Here is why. This game is meant to be more historical sim than arcade game right? So let's just get a few things straight. Historically the goal of any ship captain was to get an enemy ship to strike her colors. Not to sink the enemy ship. Kind straight forward right? This was true for many historical reasons also present in our game. Here are a few: - Nobody wants their crew to die needlessly once the battle is already decided. - No victorious captain wants their own ship to get needlessly damaged after a battle is decided. - No victorious captain wants their prize (the ship that just struck) to be needlessly damaged after a battle is decided. - A prize on the bottom of the sea is worth $0 dollars. Pirates, of all the captains out there, were the most keen on taking prizes. Jack Aubrey once ran as hard as he could from an overpowering force in the Sophie. When his flight tactics failed, he surrendered. Without firing a single shot. Without. Firing. A Single. Shot. And yet it was an extraordinarily tactical battle that lasted quite a long time before it ended in Aubrey's surrender. I'd love to have that scenario happen in game. As either the pursuer or the pursued. As to the farming issue, my understanding is that XP farming is already a punishable offense that can and has been caught and punished by the developers. What is different about surrendering versus sitting broadside to broadside farming damage XP? Think the developers won't notice if someone is surrendering every three minutes to the same guy? Frankly if some idiot wants to ruin his game experience and farm XP, so be it.
