Having become a pirate through sheer incompetents and not paying attention. I would like to offer an idea on how to return from this black stain upon my person.

Offered as a one time only option a pirate would be able to receive a letter of marque for his services from any country that would have him or her.

1) This offer would be generated randomly from one of the non-pirate nations. If the player doesn't wish to work for that random nation they may refuse, however they will remain a pirate till the end of that characters days. (In other words if you don't like who offered you the LoM and refuse...you stay pirate, no second chances.)

2) If the LoM is excepted then that player becomes a "Privateer" for that country. Any other nation can attack him or her but they are safe from attack from the host nation. They would fly a special flag so that every player would recognize them as a Privateer, including pirates.

3) They would have access to the hosting nations capital port only. They would be able to transfer their goods to that port. Or They could set up their own port at any neutral base.

4) To become a full fledged member of the new nation they must sink or capture five player character pirate vessels.

5) If they attack a host nations vessel than they forfeit all goods transferred and any ships currently based at that nations capital. In addition they may never petition to become a privateer for any nation, ever again.

A few points I would like to make about this idea.

1) Yes a player could become a privateer just to attack that nations shipping, but it would only be that one time. I believe far more players would welcome the chance and use it as intended.

2) This would be an excellent way of populating nations with below average numbers.

3) It would introduce a historically accurate  and currently omitted class.

4) There should be a way for players to leave the pirate nation.
