I haven't done much boarding, play when I can due to time constraints , what would be considered the best ( or at least good) combination of boarding upgrades? So far I came up with Marines ,muskets and pistols and gunnery handbooks. Not sure what else or if all those 3 are best combination so far. Thanks

Thanks Camunas Where do you get boarding parties? Don't see them in upgrades.....

Found this combination in a couple of posts: marines, boarding parties, grog rations, muskets and pistols, and one of the handbooks

Marines and Boarding Parties are not craftable and can only be found as loot (wrecks, port battles, missions, cap'd traders, etc..)

Like any other aspect of this game, there's multiple ways to approach this.  So I won't use term "best" here.  But, a boarding lineup that I like and have found success with:

Extra Hammocks:  the size relationship between the two crews is important

Marines:  self-explanatory.  Just more effective boarding-battle personnel regardless of style.

Boarding Parties:  Enhances Attack power and provides a preparation bonus.

Swordfighting Handbooks:  Enhances Attack power and provides a morale bonus.

Boarding Axes:  Enhances Attack power and provides a disengage bonus (the second being irrelevant; its the Attack bonus I'm going for here.  If I am using this lineup in a 4-slot ship instead of a 5-slot ship, then Axes is the one I drop, because the preparation and morale bonuses are more useful than the disengage).

You see the theme:  Attack bonuses.  I find Attack the most effective action, and therefore stack it.  It's kind of a "one-trick pony" approach, but it works for me.

Grogs  instead of Axes. is the best setup.

Baricades for defence is a must.

with such mods u can kill 500 crew on defence and on attack. if its mounted on Victory.
