I did this before in another persons thread.. SO here goes with some fine tuning looking for ideas

Concept is that ships are to alike...  I mean Every Gold Frigate built but every level 50 Crafter is almost alike...  only 4 Possible Upgrade configurations and 1 other random trim... that is it... I would love to see MORE.. This idea would mean ships would cost a LOT more to build but would be truly different even within the same class..

  SO here goes..

So what if when you ordered a ship built you were asked the following questions.,..

How many Upgrade slots you want for permanent upgrades and WHAT upgrades do you want in order of preference? Choices 1-4

What Trim do you want... you get 2

How many Crew Upgrade slots ?  You get 2-5

Now is where it gets Interesting..

When you answer these consider that the Perm upgrades are just that Perms.. they are on the ship forever..... Just like Trim

Ok for each one you want you pay an additional 2 Mid grade notes.... Same for the Crew Upgrade slots.

Buit the Trims are the ones we have now... JUst not random.. That was always silly....  But now they would all be on a single list...

Build Strength,Crew Space, Planking, Speed, Rigging, Striffness You now pick them Both......

BUT here is what will truely make the ships unique . You are not guaranteed all Golds even if a Lvl 50 crafter builds it..You are  more likely to get it.. but ship building is not an Exact Science.

For the Perms.. you will always get the minimum for the crafting type.. Grey-Gold...  but everything extra will be a chance based on the Crafters level...

So with a Lvl 50 Gold build you will get 2 for sure.. the 3rd and 4th will be a % chance each based on the crafter..

My idea would be 75% chance +1% for every level above the minimum needed to build the ships.... This would mean that in theory you ordered 4 slots but only got 1,2 and 4...

WHAT they are is based on your choice earlier of order... the Quality is also not a sure thing but the better Crafter the more likely... In this case never worse then Blue...

FOr this one... If a Lvl 50 Builds it the chances would be 60/30/10 it would be Y/P/B   but if t was a Lvl 40 that could sitll build this is a Gold It would be 50.30/20 for Y/P/B for each upgrade

Crew Upgrade Slots.. Same as Perms...

Trims.. As Perm Upgrades. Just if the first comes out other then the Best you can get the 2nd always is the best Quality...

Yes it is confusing yes it is detailed... But it is not boring....

Also I would suggest that  in this situation ALL perm upgrades would be on the captured version of the ship also.... Another reason for the increased cost.. for when people decide to split copies of a interesting ship...

Comments welcome.. Flames will be ignored... other wise have fun and sink ships

and please give credit to the crafter of the ship. for each ship it should have a label of who built it and the date it was built. that would be very cool for those who love crafting and for those who buy their own old ship a year later ;)

Good idea on crafting in the OP.

Adding the name of the crafter, date built and where as well as its history is good as well.  It adds flavour.

Naming of ships should be available as well.  Not sure if it should be upon creation or at the owners option or based on feasts of arms or trading.  Sunk/Captured so many ships or sailed/explored/traded so much.

I would prefer to move away from the whole build quality and the need for notes concept and make it more in depth, so when building ships the only really defining characteristics are the wood type then its all modules and perma upgrades that tweak them to the players style, going to 6 perma slots with 2 x sail, 2 x cannon and 2 x hull then making only 3 general/ regular slots seems a far better option and makes ships more desirable that they are on kinda equal territory, trim should be removed and we will start to see a better outcome for the economy.

When it comes to name the ships, there should be a list of names from the same or similar class of the ship crafted. If you let the players choose completely their own names, you will have the nastiest names you can imagine. This list should be unique for each faction. If it is 100 names per class it would be really individual sailing.

I really like the idea of adding the ships history to the information field.

For the trim to be added i would like to have maneuverability.

I would like to have the best sailing point indiviually defined for every ship. The players will have to find out themselfs, where it is best. Of course the kind of rigging has some influence, but why should all ships of one kind have exactly the same properties? After all they are hand crafted.
