Rebel Witch Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Coordinates would only be updated for your position when you have land in sight or within reasonable distance of land, land mark. When you reach deeper waters far from land, no more coordinates update in your map view. I still think we should have some map tools though so we can do basic coordinates. Perhaps the officer could have a perk that allows him to give a general location highlighted by a circle on the map when you click for it.
William the Drake Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I believe/hope this is just initial implementation, and that later down the line, the current location will be removed. Eventually, you should only be able to get an approximate location, and only when you have a Navigator or similar on board. The better the navigator, the more accurate the positioning. Perhaps you can only get your position at night, etc. Being able to make notes/marks on your map may be another feature, comes with having a Cartographer. 2
CaptVonGunn Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Why? By this time frame most if not all Warships could figure their location pretty close by the 1770s by the 1800s most ships carried chronometers anyway. Given we have ships in game from that didn't even leave the ship yards till after 1815 I see no reason to limit ourselves to 1600s navigation abilities
Eldberg Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Let's face it... No matter what the developers do, there will always be a tool to show your location. They might as well just put your ships position on the map and get it over and done with.

This would be cool.... without one you get the 1/2 degree grip you in? ie your somewhere around here... +/- 20%
