Fastidius Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 So fishing takes zero skill and just time so basically you take people away from combat or make us fight traders going to ship wrecks........... part of the reason this is so popular is because you make loot all over the top from shipwrecks. Firstly not everyship sunk ever had gold permanent upgrades. Submerging carrages for instance would make them not work properly and warp. Sails would decay. etc etc. Do i even need to explain why finding gold marines and gold boarding parties is a bit silly.....if the ship wasn't submerged they would swim to safety or at least risk it. All you have done by making these rewards so OP is made fishing overly popular (yay magic loot button) and decrease the values of all the non craftable gold mods which were the only carrots you had for people going to port battles. Please adjust the drops from shipwrecks to have a fine & MC variablility and also remove all non craftables from it Or make marines etc craftable in the short term/longterm while you figure it out 8) 1

The Spud Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I don't realy see the problem here, allot of people are enjoying themselves, it brought like 500-600 people back to PvP one (although thats not because of the fishing alone). And its not like you will get 4 sealed bottles every session. I played 6 hours straight last night, not specificaly fishing, and I got allot of fish but not a single bottle. I got 2 bottles since last hotfix, on roughly 25 hours of playtime. So I wouldn't exactly call fishing an automatic loot button. Sure some probably got lucky and got 2 in the same hour or something, but I haven't and many other haven't I am sure. I understand if you allready have a ton of gold mods allready, and now everybody has the same gold mods basicaly for free, it's frustrating if you put down top dollar for gold marines etc. These AFK fishermen you see all around, wouldn't be logged in if it wasn't for the fishing, so its not like they are AFK fishing instead of doing PvP or missions, at least not the majority. I like the fishing and bottle thing, and with all the new upgrades since some patches ago, you'll need allot of bottles before you have all gold upgrades. Wouldn't realy call this a problem. 5

But for the people that do choose to go and sail after those shipwrecks, it needs to be rewarding. Because let's face it, you are wasting atleast 50 minutes to get to your wreck, and then you risk losing it all due to a random player that decides to attack you. So it better be worth it, otherwise the whole shipwreck thing will die and then that would be a waste of development time and recources. the loot can be altered, but it better be worth it in my opinion. Simply because you sail alot. the whole magically part of it will most likely be improved in the future. 1
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Flipping ports to gather loot was used for a long time to get access to Exceptional modules as well and there wasn't any voices against it. Now that we have a valid Exploration little thing that gives rewards the first thing that shows is voices against the Exceptional loot and that it draws players away from Conquest / PvP. I for one am very happy to see players going out of their areas and explore and opening outposts in far away areas. Because, let's be honest, PvEing in homewaters or going out to a shipwreck is essentially no PvP. 3

It just speaks to the kind of gamers who have to be catered to now. I made this same post in a post called teach a man to fish. I acually dont mind the fishing because it got the port huggers to acually come out to sea for me to sin but when i first heard fishing was comming i too thought oh cool fishi ng boats with huge nets trolling along or slow ships laying long lines or fishing. I guess would have taken to much effort. At least this carrot dangled in front of the kids was easy and got them to come out so its not all bad. 2

Bottles are a pleasant surprise when out hunting, and the fisherman craze seems to have had sideaffects on the "fishermen." Imagine my surprise when after spending an hour working an LGV's sails down to 50% and killing around 160 of his crew using my rattlesnake, to find that there's no guns poking out of his gunports. I could have captured him 20 minutes ago! I found and capped two LGVs with no guns but loaded with fish this weekend. In all seriousness though, I am glad that its getting people onto the OW, even if it is just for the hope of finding a bottle. More PVP targets is never a bad thing. 2

Regardless fishing is a good thing as it gives people something else to do(which was really needed imho) and it is also rewarding. Sure it devalues some things(like gold and silver coins) but overall i am happy with fishing so far(though id love it to be more interactive) 2

Sure blinking fish is good and all but I'm of the opinion that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in any game should ever be do-able afk... if you aren't going to play the game don't "play" the game if you get what I mean... the solutions are endless but in its current state fishing is a horrible blight on this game.

Its all in the tuning. Rather than just nerf everything new, perhaps look at balancing the rewards elsewhere as a result of what in general has been a great patch (9.9).
