Jeheil Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 (edited) With 9.9 and crew management/officers, a captain with an indoor swimming pool inside his ships hull (sinking) is far wiser to surrender than sink (despite the fact his ship is already lost...which really means he isnt surrendering...he is just saying it...and then sinking !). So when I defeat an opponent in PvP, he gets to 75% sunk...hits surrender and leaves battle with all the crew that were alive at the point of surrender and an unscathed officer. I, the victor cannot get his ship as 30 seconds later it is sunk AND I get no kill or assist credits for all my hard work. Can you please consider the following suggestions : 1) A surrender grants the kill/assist rewards based on damage model 2) When a captain surrenders his ship insta-magically stops sinking and is capturable by the victor The rational for 2 being, it is hardly surrender if you are going to die anyway...thats just acceptance...I cannot imagine stopping you from surrendering if you are taking on water being acceptable (despite this being the more realistic option)....so at least reward the victor. Khendon Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 i have been saying since the patch came out that if your ship it taking water or on fire surrender should not be an option. and i mean like you got shot and sprung a leak which your crew will fix...cannot surrender until its gone. and obviously if u got your face punched totally in then you cannot opt out down you go with all hands. 1
Potemkin Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 +1 something needs to be done about this. My preference would be to use the escape mechanics where you cannot escape/surrender if you are sinking/burning. Its a real kick in the pants when you work someone over for an hour and they deny you the reward at the end by surrendering. The decision to surrender should be made long before your ship is 75% underwater.
Jeheil Posted July 5, 2016 Author Posted July 5, 2016 (edited) This is the thing that gets me. Myself and a matey were very cleverly tagged (the baddies..in this case the spanish) tagged two AI traders lynx and pulled us in. 2 of them SANK but surrendered before Davey claimed them, one ran with a slither of armour and got out, one just plain ran. 2 Ingies v 2 Constis, 1 Trinc and a Frigate. Almost 90 minutes of furious (and super fun) battle. 600+ hull penetrations. But ZERO kill or assist reward and with repairs and crew a NET LOSS in $$$ terms. http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/268344597679654851/2D04D9D55DF604D4FBBC74F2CFCEE0EFF2401445/ Edited July 5, 2016 by Jeheil 2
Skully Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I think you should get full rewards when a ship sinks, regardless of the surrender. But people do it, because they desperately want to save their officer (and crew). So I want to propose that you can not surrender while you are sinking or on fire. Instead you should have the option to abandon ship via whaleboats: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/15042-lifeboats-when-we-are-sunk/?p=278905
Baptiste Gallouédec Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 (edited) Surrender should give a reward like sinking a ship. Bigger reward to the one who did most of the damages or the closer if no damages done, and maybe assist past a certain amount of damages. Edited July 6, 2016 by Baptiste Gallouédec 1
karotte Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 (edited) +1 I thought this was adressed long ago... Please fix it! Edited July 7, 2016 by karotte
Kronans Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I whud like that officer lose dura when you hit surrender or the hole ide is gone. And that you get kill /assist on the ship as it was going down.

Plus officers captured were often exchanged, and even treated like honoured guests. The solution is the same as Escape coding. If there's Leaks no Surrender. If there's Fire, no Surrender.

Why the leak limit? Removal of surrender ill effect over the victor should do the trick by itself, so " surrender grants the kill/assist rewards based on damage model" solves it, To avoid abuses with levelling simply checking than a given damage % has been done avoids most irregular uses (the data is being used already to credit kill/assist)
