Hi!

I enjoyed Naval Action but it's been a couple of months probably since I played. The game, at that time, didn't seem to offer much in variety. It seemed like all there was to do was take a couple of missions, search the open waters (sometimes lengthy). enter combat, defeat the AI, return to port, then repeat.

If I reinstalled the game, would I be looking at a vastly different experience now?

Vastly? Maybe not, but check the forum for the last patch info. Recent things added, sailing xp, ship wreck treasures, new PB mechs, new officer perks, etc. PvP2 server has tons of PvP along east coast of USA and plenty of PBs. Info here:

Remember this will continue to be EA alpha for a bit. Next big patch we are eagerly awaiting is the diplomacy patch. Info here:

You've just described every mmorpg with quests. These games are what you make them. This one at least has a small amount of freedom to do as you please.

If all you do is solo missions, then not much has changed. There is trading, PvP, RvR, crafting, clan socializing, etc.. If you do not enjoy the other aspects vs. solo missions, then you probably will still be bored...to me, tactical battles are only 20% of the game...lots more to do than that...

Most MMOs I've played have different quests at least. This was the same two quests over and over. Exactly the same description and the same rewards.

That kind of stuff is usually not viable until you reach higher levels. Admittedly, I hadn't gotten very high. I did like the game as far as the combat and feel it has much potential.

PvP Port Battles split across 3 different ship types

AI Fleeting is back. Player Fleeting is back, fishing is in, Fleet Missions, more variety to ships with officers is emerging, crew management is now 'a thing', much better penetration/armour classifcations are in, it is beginning to shape up.

This is a mindset that is far more prevalent than it should be. I do a majority of my PVP in 120-280 crew ships, despite being max rank and owning multipe SoLs. You do not need gold everything to PVP. With fishing and the new prevalence of trader lynxes and cutters, you can even take a privateer or pickle and try your hand at hunting player traders and fishermen. The worst than can possibly happen is you sink and learn a little.

The one thing I cannot stress enough about this game is to not fall into the trap of "I can't PVP or do anything of note until I've ground to Rear Admiral by bullying bots." You may advance faster by mission grinding, but you will learn nothing useful in PVP from it and will burn yourself out because you've turned Naval Action from a game into a chore.
