Mrdoomed Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Well yall know how it goes. After close to capital missions and teleport machines pretty much killed open world sailing and pvp, i cant believe all it took was a blinking fish icon and a dangled carrot err fish to get people suddenly interested in sailing for 7 hours at sea ! Fuck it , whatever it took to do it im glad. Ive had about 20 or 30 open sea pvp battles and a few decent trade ships caught too. Thats on pvp2 too ! Most action ive seen in over a month and the server pop has been over 200 at times to instead of 60. First update ive found helpful to the game in a long time minus the ai fleets but oh well free xp. Lets introduce whalers next to make it better ! 4
Long Beard Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 (edited) Fishing, AI player super fleets, 20% faster reload against pirates. Let me know when that changes, were fights are based on pure player skill vs pure player skill not stats / buffs or AI, so I can play some NA and be a real pirate again. Right now you'll find me in arma 3 exile with the rest of the [black] clan. Edited July 3, 2016 by Long Beard

Right now you'll find me in arma 3 exile with the rest of the [black] clan. It's 10% now. AI Player super fleets? Haven't seen many of those around. Seems its a bit too expensive so people don't do that much. Fishing? What's wrong with fishing? Everyone loves fish!

Now it all gonna be magic or potions in order to please todays ADD gamers. 1
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 For the sake of making a point a pirate raider fleet consisting of two brigs and one 32 guns cruiser engaged a enemy West Indiaman with a NPC fleet of one brig and one 2nd rate ship of the line. Was just a proof of concept. And it was fun because of the massive explosion of the Indiaman in the end. So instead of having 1 trader being raided by 1 pirate we had a trader with AI escort being raided by 3 pirates. We wanted to prove that instead of providing a more disperse concentration of trade raid efforts this new Fleet academy thing pushes the boundary of the "honest" piracy and privateering and somewhat localized "ganking" to a whole new level. What did change ? A lot. And more swoops of ganks will happen. It is simple maths. What will happen is that raiders will disappear and mere hooligan flotillas will show up. You bring fleets ? They will to. Will become a PvE fest that will bore down the interest in the long run. 1

Wolfram Harms Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 (edited) Well, there is not only fish to catch and sell (some can bring you 7500 per fish, in the right harbour!) - there are also those sealed bottles, that contain a note where to find a wreckage with a treasure. There won't be only silver and gold coins - there is often also an "upgrade" of a high quality. Some may find all this had nothing to do with Naval combat. Well, not directly, may be - but the sim isn't named NAVAL COMBAT. We all need some money to get on with everything, and beginners may find these new ways of making some money, very useful! So I say: great expanding update! Edited July 3, 2016 by Olham 1
Sir Cloudsley-Shovell Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Maybe let us Craft "dedicated" fishing Vessels that would have an increased "catch"
Jeheil Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Fishing has hardly 'ruined' anything. This weekends PvP was fantastic. It can be frustrating to realise the defense of a port you sweated blood to take has less ships there than are in front of (in my case) KPR...but those folks were probably never your PvP vanguard. I think a simple suggestion, to make fishing what it should be is this : 1) Fishing turns off if you are in the same spot for more than 10 minutes (or even still !!) 2) Fishing turns off if you are hard left or right rudder for more than 5 minutes. Done. Sorted. Oh and, in the capitalist west : Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, teach a man a fish and you lose control of your market...and all the fish stocks are depleted.
Skully Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 1) Fishing turns off if you are in the same spot for more than 10 minutes (or even still !!) Nah, I don't mind you fishing AFK on the same spot at Ruatan.
Jeheil Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Nah, I don't mind you fishing AFK on the same spot at Ruatan. ??? Not tried AFK fishing myself yet ??? I have had a total of 3 Sealed Bottles so far and all of them have happened while heading to or from Port Defence/Attacks around Ruatan, it is a 'Bottle Rich Environment'. That was very funny PvP last night when you 3 attacked us with a fire ship...one ranged shot and he catches fire...then the long kite till he assploded....where he nearly caught you. As I left that battle to hurry back to defend Ruatan from your Spanish friends 'pop' another bottle. I have now defended Ruatan 6 times...and my reward...FIVE sets of blue studded sails.....
The Spud Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I like the new fishing thing, now allot of people have been bashing the AFK fishermen, but hey, if i'm going to watch a movie or am cooking dinner I might as well leave my line out and make some money. I personaly think it will encourage people to sail around more. The numbers don't lie, the last patch has brought back a good 500 - 600 players to PvP1, and allot of new people too as far as I have seen. I think its refreshing, and an excellent implementation on the officers, the fishing and the crew. Although the crew thing seem a bit too costly at the moment, but I do see far less SoL out. So i'm happy to roll out my ingermanland and conni....
mikawa Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I've noticed an increased traffic on OW since the patch. The idea of fishing is great and shows perfectly that simple changes may have great effects. We need more ideas like this to get people out of their ports, e.g. exploration gameplay, smuggler missions ... 2
Wolfram Harms Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 (edited) What about "secret orders"? You can receive them in one of your harbours. You have to sail to a point "X" on the open sea. There you will meet a ship from which you can take over special documents, which you must bring to another specific port. When you arrive there and deliver the stuff, you will get rewarded - not necessarily with gold or money - maybe with an excellent upgrade, a mid grade note, or anything else of special value? Just an idea... Edited July 4, 2016 by Olham 3

Withdrawn whilst drunk also but whilst there are some features in this patch I strongly disagree with, I cannot speak on behalf of the [black] Clan, my comments about them all being in arma 3 is not true. Wait, so the guys who hide in battle screens waiting for a gank, don't fight unless it is 11 to 1, and hunt noobs outside Charleston are taking off to Arma? Don't let the door hit you in the ass....
Long Beard Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 (edited) Maybe "Delete Post" button would be helpful here? No, because drunken rage posts add to the drama, and drama is what makes this game unique. Been there many times. You and me will get along in RL Never apologise for being drunk, nobody should apologise for having fun Join [bLACK[ we need more people with that kind of attitude! Right now, I report from Mallorca or majorca which was apparently a pirate hot spot back in the day. Blackbeard apparently visited these islands. Why the ferklage doesn't my wife see the importance of me going out and exploring the history of these islands?? I try to tell her I'm a pirate! She just laughs. BITCH! Wolfram Harms Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 ...drama is what makes this game unique. Why the ferklage doesn't my wife see the importance of me going out and exploring the history of these islands?? We've just brought some drama upon a Dutch sailor with a lone trader brigg. Chased him with a Renommée and a Cherubim and shot him up, stole his gold and silver, and had a red-wine and rum party at La Mona. Your wife doesn't need to understand it - she just needs to follow you. The islands are very beautiful, and after some exploring, you might invite her for a nice dinner in a seaside terrace restaurant?
