Any cool-down suffers from 3 issues, which others noted on the design topic:

  1. The rolling wave across a coastline, one party goes left, the other goes right. Come at end and do the reverse.
  2. The tidal wave, should the other party not block or attack (into the rolling wave), the attacking party can steam roll to capital without worrying about their backs.
  3. Cancer blot, pick an outpost you can barely reach and ruffle-stump in. Free ganking for 7 days.

A "port battle cooldown timer" is not the same as a "flag purchase cooldown timer".

Is the purchase timer tied to a captain or to a port?

If tied to a port, we open the potential "false" flag problem a bit further.

(Probably better to wait for the next-gen port battle mechanics. :P )

 

I think it would be ok if it is tied to a nation.
Devs have made it very clear that abusing this mechanic with alt accounts will be severely punished with alt accounts and mains financing the fraud being affected.

 

Chimera put forth a potential solution to the bug.

 

Yet now I can't buy the Utila flag as it says: Flag can't be bought for 28 more hours.

 

Effectively 9.9 introduced the cancer blot bug for real.

 

(Tied to this allowing the timer to be set to 20-22 and 10-12 is basically screwed. But that's a slightly different issue. :P )
