Sir Texas Sir Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 those could be sinking spots not action spots (so called sinking reports) But if no one was sunk than there shouldn't be a report and I hate to tell you guys this is like the big "GPS" argument with the in game map many didn't want. Your basically saying every one go here cause I just fought some one. When last i checked none of these ships are rigged with radio's and radar. You don't want to know how many times I gotten out of fights cause of the timer ran out cause folks didn't want to give up on trying to capture my trader until the battle timer was over. That is a lot of time wasted for some one that can only get one shot every min on me to keep me in a fight but not really do any damage. The reason they are doing this is cause they called their buddies and have them all sitting out side waiting to tag me with speed fitted boats. So what do I do. I sit in the battle screen and go to the bathroom (been holding it for an hour any way) or make me a snack and than I pop out. If they can't get the hint that I"m not going to sit running for another 2 hours than they are the ones that need to get a new life and move on. So with a system like this I would just log the game off and go play something else as it's pointless to try to just pop out and be on your merry way. So my vote is NO TO GPS RADAR REPORTS. 1
Woody051 Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 What we need is for the servers to merge into 1 server to save this game and grow its community. I'm assuming the goal of this poll/post is to bring more action and activity to the game. To me i see the real solution is to bring the population together into one and to more potently fill out the server and map and the rest will occur naturally. Showing dots on the map will only encourage people getting jumped when exiting battles. It isn't very roleplay-like and it isn't something i would expect in a game like this. If i want to see where enemies are i would go play Battlefield or Call of Duty and launch a UAV or a scout plane. However this is the "Age of Sail" and for any well-versed player in the game they already have a partial education as to where battles are most likely happening. With the proposed upcoming changes in that PVE missions may begin to take place in the nearest enemy territories then it would only further caution that players may want to act more covertly as to be in enemy territory will be risky. 1
Skully Posted August 9, 2016 Author Posted August 9, 2016 Please do not jump to conclusions that are already covered in the patch proposal.
Saint George Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 I would say generally no. It Would not be true to the period. There were no radios or other long range communications, that would allow one to know about a fight, beyond LOS, or over the horizon, until it was likely over. There could be such indicators for battles that were in LOS, i.e. not over the horizon. And there could be such indicators even for battles that may be over the horizon, but only within distance a ship could sail and carry a message, in such time as the typical battle would have lasted at the time.
Skully Posted August 14, 2016 Author Posted August 14, 2016 There were no radios or other long range communications, that would allow one to know about a fight, beyond LOS, or over the horizon, until it was likely over.I would love to see us having to communicate maneuvers via flags. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_flag_signalling But the reality is that almost everybody uses TS. The game will never reach true reality of that time period. This is a fact we can only acknowledge. Similar to gravity it is a "law of nature".
Anne Wildcat Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Instead of maybe red dots showing battles or sinks, have a thermal type map showing hot areas?
Skully Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 Instead of maybe red dots showing battles or sinks, have a thermal type map showing hot areas?Note that this proposal only goes for battle screens, not for battles or sinks. To me growing and shrinking red dots equals a thermal type map. What would be the difference? Also note that this suggestion has already been superseded by http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/15662-battle-screen-markers-timeouts-patch-proposal/
squedage Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 i think that there should be a "record" of were fights have happened and it be generalized so that there is no specific locations but just this area. Also think it should be "old" info like fights that have already ended and you can see those for a couple of hours or it can change on every server reset. That way you can see were most players are but it doesnt give you a homing beacon to a fight.

Fingers crossed.
Destraex Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I think an on map indication of when the final people in the battle screen have logged off would be good. This way it stops the waiting with no disadvantage for the gankers who have now logged off.
