  1. 1. Should we have battlescreen dots on the map?

Coming out of http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/14612-suggestion-pvp1-fight-zone/?p=270951

Actually the "PVP1 Fight Zone" topic gives me an idea: what if all battlescreens (not battles, but post-battles) show up as a red dot on the open world map? Optionally fading away with time or disappearing right away when folks go open-world.

http://forum.game-la...e-4#entry269696

  1. It gives an indication where action might be at. It should not show any sort of composition of ships or nations.
  2. It solves the problem of not generating intel as I outlined in the linked post.
  3. It might solve the hiding in a battlescreen problem as folks can either avoid the general area or leave battlescreen quickly to not leave a mark.

(I've added a poll, because there is no dislike button on topics/posts.)

it can work, but only for pvp battles and fading away after some time (to be decided how long)

It is not meant for pvp battles, but folks sitting in the battlescreen. Basically:

  1. Create an incentive not to stay in the battlescreen, but enter open world.

To prevent ppl from sitting in battle screen they simply should add timer how long u can stay in after battle screen.

I proposed this a while ago. Fully agree.

It could be an added option, but as long as sitting in battlescreen creates a red dot then it just lets the game make a decision for you.

Which I don't like, decisions should be made by players.

I do not want to force players who fought maybe an hour long battle to go to OW and be dragged into the next one again, and again and again. It's fair to allow players in battle screen to take a pause or even quit but it's also fair for the ones who wait outside to have a signal when there is no one left to fight.

I would really really like to have a somewhat faded battle sign (semi-transparent maybe) as long as the (pvp) battle is ongoing. This makes a lot of typing in chats redundant (because everyone outside clearly sees the battle entry). This sign should vanish after all players have quit / logged off so the outsiders know that there is no one left to fight.

You will always have the option of logging off after a battle. That is a well established condition by now.

It's more in-line with the discussion we are having at http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/14485-hiding-in-battle-screens-solved/?p=271610

But from what I've read so far, I think the general consensus is not to have anything marked during a battle. If anybody thinks otherwise, maybe we should do a top-level poll?

Showing Finished battles (only), for a given time (even all day) , will help feel alive the map and people knowing  zones to visit/avoid (useful for "true" pvpers and "carebears" at the same time  ), while giving little to no help for "ambushers".

We already have this function in game. Its called nation chat i believe.

It still hides those who setup a battle screen intentionally.

The polls ATM are closer than I thought they would be for this one.  I voted no, but it wasn't a strong vote.  I was sort of in-between on this one.  However, and as was stated above, if something like this were implemented I would rather see it produce hot spots or even dots that are past action, not present action.  We don't need to unfairly aid those who wish to hunt, but rather aid them in finding the likely zones.  That way souls aren't singled out so much as prey.  But I do like the hotspot idea.

I voted no, but only because I don't think it should be battle screen only... I think it would be worth testing having battle indicators that are placed when a battle starts but fade over the course of 2-3 in-game days, etc.  Thus you could tell where action was located and where you might go hunting for players.

I think you should vote yes. ;) Not because it is was you want in the end, but because it is a step in the direction you want.

I also think that a vote for any form of (ongoing) battle markers will just go down on the no side, but maybe there is only one way to find out. :P

I'd like to see this when using the in-game map. Would even like to see them color-coded: green for current open battles, red for closed battles, black/grey for finished battles. If not this, then maybe one of those who make the interactive maps could possible highlight on their maps where hotspots happen to be? The PvP2 server seems to have hotspots primarily from Charleston to Cabo Canaveral, some near La Tortue, Shroud Cay, Key West and Tumbado. (The last three not so much recently.)

Personally, I'd like to see battles stay open until one side wins. No sense in having 4 or five small battles all in the same area. No sense in closing them, because people battle camp anyway, which makes the battles just continue on and on until a side wins.

I do want to stress out, this is purely a marker on the in-game map when somebody is on the battlescreen. Ongoing battles and battle entry are subjects for other topics.

We could tweak it with some parameters, for example: the marker will fade in after 30 seconds on battlescreen. And it'll fade out once a player goes open world.

those could be sinking spots not action spots (so called sinking reports)

That's more in line with what AfkSailor said in the original topic at http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/14612-suggestion-pvp1-fight-zone/

I think it makes sense to have sinking reports as an indication of hostilities. That would make it also a nice bridge to the new port battle mechanics.

How would these come to players? Simply on the map?

Do you want to discuss here or in the other topic?

Honesty, why cant we just put a 5 minute timer on the post battle screen, then all players get the boot into open world. If a vessel was caught off guard in the age of sail, and didn't want to fight, they didn't simply disappear. They ran away! Or tried at any rate. About a week ago, our nation got word that an enemy fleet hopped out f a free port and was attacking some local traders. So we gathered up a fleet as quickly as we could and chased them out to sea, only to have them "defensively tag" one of our players. The battle started with the enemies well outside our firing range. So, they were all able to escape the battle, and either logged off or remained in the post battle screen for at least 30 minutes, at which point we sailed back to port.

So just like that, poof, a fleet of about 10-12 line ships vanish into thin air. The fact that an entire squadron of ships can teleport in, hunt a few traders, then disappear without any worry of losing ships is horrible for this amazing game.

As for marking on a map where someone is in a post battle screen, maybe not. Instead of an exact area clearly marked on the map, I think a "zone" would be a bit better. Something along the lines of, "One of our frigates was engaged in combat yesterday, near the western Florida coast." Something that would be a bit more realistic, like an admiralty or captain getting actual Intel about recent fighting somewhere.

5 minutes in battle screen, and 5 minutes in a battle instance after your opponent leaves. Maximum wait of 10 minutes to retag. If they don't pop out, they logged off.

There are very legitimate reasons to log off after a long, drawn out fight. Ie: go to work, take the dog out, talk to your wife, kids are on fire etc...

Be reasonable fellows.

I absolutely understand that after a long fight, people want a break. It's the time that a player defensively tags their enemy that chases them, only to exit the battle right away and hang out in the after battle screen. They use the silly mechanics of the game to save them from what should have been a fight.

People dont need breaks after 2 minutes of running, they need breaks after a 2 hour battle!

Since I would like to have the game as historical as possible, I voted "No". There should be no marks on the map indicating battles. You may get information on battles, when entering ports like " 3 pirate cutters and 4 french privateers in battle 3 miles south of Mortimer. Battle started at 12.00PM". This messages might be availabe up to 2h after starting the fight. For this an information board might be intoduced in ports.

How about folks just stop trying to fight over and over.  If some one escapes and you don't see them pop back out than the fights over and move on.  Hell I was in an almost 2 hour fight and had to make dinner late and such cause I was expecting a short run but the guy keep hitting me over and over even though I keep out running him in my trader.  I was so freaking hungry I was pissed at the end and almost just hit the surrender button. Instead i logged off the game and came back later.  Though I shouldn't be getting stuck in 2 hours of running with some one.  I shoul be able to escape and be gone on my way to the port I was trying to get to.   I think folks stay in the screen so long cause it's to easy to tag hit some one right after getting out of the battle screeen.  Hell if I can escape and show up where I escaeped from in relationship to where I was hit that would solve thtis cause folks can't just sit out side waiting to gank you when you leave the fight.
