Aus Robert Maynard Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I think the new leak mechanic preventing a ship leaving a battle is the wrong direction to go. In a fleet battle , if a ship is stricken it will immediately move to the rear of the fleet for protection & repair. In the current mechanic if you are leaking you can no longer leave the battle giving the aggressor the ability to simply turn away & let you sink knowing you can't leave. This is a broken mechanic for the reason stated above as it is not the way it would really happen. The devs want to claim it is a real world sailing sim but they keep adding these stupid mechanics that simply turn it into an arcade game. If you want to produce a real world sim then do it & stop playing stupid games with the development. The old mechanic worked very well - why change it? for the pirates ? for your own amusement? for the death of the game? Come on people how about some sensible tweaks to the mechanics that actually need them like wind or invisible sand bars that obviously should highlight with a lighter water color due to the shallow depth not be the same color as deep water - simple obvious things like that not nerfing the nations for the pirates.
BungeeLemming Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 This mechanic I longed for too long. Do you know how frustrating it is, to fight outgunned and outnumbered, played your ass off in order to inflict as much dmge a posible. And then there is a mechanic which totally diminishes your gain because the player shot the most will just klick out. even at 1 mycrometer not full of water. That was rubbish. if you cannot estimate when your ship is going to go down, just sail away a lot sooner. It takes time to disengage. And you should not wait until its too late. You should get out of the heat way in advance to sinking. Its not gamebreaking. It forces you to think in advance. 5
z4ys Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 (edited) Furthermore the intention of the hull repair is to let you disengage when you are taking on water and not to keep you fighting longer. Edited June 9, 2016 by z4ys
hellshammy Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 i agree with bungee and he is right in all points, the fact you are used to the arcadish style of lemme sail out,fix a few holes the size of a Fiat Punto and then jump in and fight back was just broken or just run away after a well played broadside with 20 leaks.. this game is chess with great graphics, start learning the figures lad
Nalyd Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 (edited) I love this feature, I'm no longer forced to tag sinking ships to be sure they actually go to the bottom of the ocean instead of just magically disappear by the power of the christ despite being condemned. If you're constantly taking water despite having fixed all the leaks, that means your vessel took too much punishment and is well beyond salvation. What was stupid and arcadey is that you could leave and live another day while having your ship completely obliterated just because you could bail out after 2 minutes while it would have required 3 minutes for you to sink. Unless you believe in divine intervention to repair your ship. A sinking ship, even if it manages to disengage from a fight will still sink if you don't have the stuff required to fix it anyway. And I don't see what the heck do pirates have to do with this game mechanic. Edited June 9, 2016 by Nalyd
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Was a highly requested feature ( with good reason ) from the community I am pretty sure of it.
Anolytic Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 How is this feature arcade and not realism? If your ship is sinking it's inevitably dying. You should not be able to save yourself by clicking out of the battle, that would be the arcade thing. If you disengage and plug your leaks and pump out the water, then you can escape. Enemy ships half full with water escaping consequences just because they weren't tagged for 2 minutes, that's the stupid thing that used to bother me. 1
Long Beard Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I've lost 4 dura in this game (excluding basic cutter noob days). The last one was day one of the new leak mechanic and someone forgot to read the patch notes I'd just been bragging that night how I'd only lost 3 dura TBH, it was frustrating, but I don't mind it. Just means you got to keep an aye on things and make escape before leaks get too crazy. 1
delaine Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 simlar mechanic in a different game way op sounds is if he is soloing an elite fleet in potbs(true arcadyness) and gettin broadsided by 6 or 8 of the big boats he should beable to click out when they are broadsiding him.... no support for op look at it like this from a rl life your in a boat thats takin on water ya cant click out because its real life so what do ya do? turn around and try to shoot back at whoever put enough holes below the water line to fill ya full of water hopfuly punchin a few holes in him
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Let me get home to my library and I will reference you to an engagement where a French frigate that surrendered after some 18(?) hours being chased while taking on water. She couldn't run and it would be a great loss of life. There are plenty of those to support the gameplay mechanic. Going too far with RL into game would be to impede repairs in the OW, but while in instance the mechanics are good. 1 repair and chase while leaking are okay. Surrender might be an option. It is very real and might save your crew in the future alpha version.
Fastidius Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 (edited) i'd suggest a compromise would be a 7 minute timer on leaky leaving.....but i think its fine how it is. your meant to sink not escape Edited June 9, 2016 by Fastidius
mikawa Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Can I do something to prevent taking water when leaked? If the ship is heeling to one side, leaks even above waterline would matter. Does the game care for this? Can lowering / depowering sails decrease the amount of water coming in? 1
Cpt Blackthorne Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Leaks are screwed still. I had 24 leaks in 3 broadsides on the starboard side of this merc but he never took on water. I however lost all my armor because repair was spreading repairs evenly on all sides rather than all on the worst side...... and without any leaks showing i took on water and sank in 2 minutes...plain stupid
Mrdoomed Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 I always save my repair until im sinking. Has never let me down ( to the ocean floor) yet but any time i see someone prematurely use hull repair i can sit back and just range him till he sinks. Moral of my story. Save hull repair. 1
