Can't give speceific move orders.

I can't do that.  FIrst of all I have to hold down ctrl to give move orders, which seems weird but I'm not sure because I just bought the game.

 

But when I do hold down ctrl and right click, all I can give is give a simple move order to a specific location.  If I click and drag, after I let up on the right mouse button all it does is order the unit to the point where I clicked to begin the drag.

The usual default way to move a unit is to left click on a unit, and then left click and drag from the banner to create the path. It took me a few minutes to work it out at first.
