Serk Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Hello everyone, I don't know if it has ever been tried in a earlier version of the game, but I believe it would be great to be able to load different ammunition type for each gun deck on a broadside. Some guns are currently useless (6 pdrs on St. Pavel for exemple) but they could find some use with different ammo type. For exemple, we could load chain for the lighter 6 pdrs guns and use them on sails, while loading regular ammo for heavy guns. What do you think? 1
Inkompetent Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Although agreeing that the feature would be nice I do dispute the uselessness of the light guns that several SOLs (and other ships) carry. Exclude them from your hull-targeting broadsides of course since they are hopelessly useless against anything armoured, but instead use them to snipe crew off the enemy top deck. Six-pounders, and even four-pounders, punch straight through the weak railing up top and kill crew left and right. Definitely not to be frowned upon.
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 IIRC there are technical issues with this ( recalling from Sea Trials suggestion same as this ). Of note that many ships kepts some carronades always loaded with ball and musket ball just in case of a boarding attempt, but this cannot be modelled effectively. I would expect the technical difficulties with this to be overcame some time in the future.
Inkompetent Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Shouldn't be as much technical difficulties as UI and control difficulties. The back-end ought to be relatively simple to code, but how do you make an untuitive UI for and controls that are easy to use, yet offer the functionality required? It is easy to go into the swamp of "too much to do" which'll end up being a fight with the controls and the interface more than a fight with the enemy.
