Jean Pual Vilvenue Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Well this is weird...Taking part in a PvE fight between Blood and myself, Santisima and Victory respectively. And after over 1 hour and a half spent on trying to demast I couldn't do it. I started off by slowing him down via Chain Shot, then proceeded to do my usual turn and fire, turn and fire and repeat strategy whereby I would easily demast an enemy after about 20 minutes pre patch. This is with cannon ball shot mind you. After dealing over 1.2k sail damage of which at least 150 shots were actually directed and hit the masts, they would never fall, with the exception of the front most mast on the Santi which did fall after about 40 minutes. What is going on ??? LOLRefer to the attached photos for details please.
DazednConfused Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 u know in rl when firing at a rounded object its really unlikely they won't deflect until very close right? New patch far better
Jean Pual Vilvenue Posted May 25, 2016 Author Posted May 25, 2016 u know in rl when firing at a rounded object its really unlikely they won't deflect until very close right? New patch far better If it takes me 1 hour and 30 minutes to try and demast and cannot succeed, how do you suppose anyone will now be able demast? I was firing at a range of about 250-350 metres. I fired about 75 broadsides of which maybe 20% per broadside found its mark right at the centre and connected with splinters flying off. Surely you can't actually bring real life scenarios into this, it is a game after all. How can you possibly say the post patch is better, when they have essentially removed the demasting mechanic entirely as I have tested. 1
SphinX Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Mast thickness is 100cm for the lowest section on the 3rd rates and above. At 250m the 12 pd cannons are useless, 24s only have 8cm extra penetration (will probably still bounce off) and the 42s have the only chance of doing full damage. Even point blank, the 12s only have 100cm penetration, so they'll probably still fail to penetrate.

It should be a chance based on rigging damage. lower stumps only drop in novels and movies. post patch is better because all modes of play are FAR more balanced than before - if everyone only goes for masts its because its too easy and the only way to win. 4

Before patch you could and should just slap on the lowest caliber cannons on your ship, shoot in the general direction of the sails and dismast them, chain shots had no use whatsoever, couple that with a few gold boarding mods that give you an instant win in 2 attacks, and i for one cant see how you find that better than what we have now. 1
