Sorrow Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Since the Port are now full of Constitutions and Ingermanlands - I'd like to propose that the duration of ships is reliant on the quality of the ship. Right now you can just buy a basic constitution, annoy the hell out of your enemy and if you have used all 5 durations of it you just buy another one. To make the ships "worth" a little bit more without making them crazy overpriced I propose, that the quality of the ship dictates the duration of the ship Meaning: A Constitution: Exceptional - 4 Dura Mastercrafted - 3 Dura FIne - 2 Dura Common - 1 Dura And the ones buyable in the shop have only 1 dura. So if you want a Consti with more than one dura you have to put some Mid Grade Notes in to get those Durations. Same for bigger ships - sailing a basic Santi is a joke - Since 1st rates only have 1 Dura you only can craft exceptional ones - other qualities should not be able to be crafted. 3rd Rates could be made in: Exceptional - 3 Dura Mastercrafted - 2 Dura Fine - 1 Dura thats it. Ultimately you put some worth in the ships quality and increase the benefits of "good" ships without taking away the possibility to craft a bad one, but you encourage better ships starting from the bigger ones. Small Ships should use the same mode - Snow for example: Exceptional - 5 Dura Mastercrafted - 4 Dura FIne - 3 Dura Common - 2 Dura Basic - 1 Dura Maybe the countless tagging of 1st rate fleets with small ships like consties will be reduced because its not a basic one which loses its durations but an exceptional one. 3
Bommel Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 (edited) 1 Dur for everything.... ...is the best way to disencourage a lot of people from PVP. Not every player is hardcore and has time to play a few hours a day in which he can earn enough money to actually afford losing ships on a regular base. Do not let this game go full EVE please (Even though in EVE you could spent/invest real money to have enough ISK to be able to buy ships+mods) . Edited May 22, 2016 by Bommel 1
vonKrimm Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 (edited) if anything, it should be an inverse relationship between quality and durability: the better the ship, the less durability. of course 1st rates of all types & quality still only have 1 dura; 2nd rates up to and including MC have 2 dura, exceptional have 1 dura; 3rd up to up to and including fine have 3 dura; MC & excep have 2 dura; all frigates class basic & common 5 dura, fine & MC 4 dura, exceptional 3 dura. all non-rates & merchants get 5 dura regardless of quality. also need a system to replace lost durability. I have to agree on that except that I don´t think we need a system to replace lost durabilities.
Peter Fouche Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 (edited) 1 Dur for everything.... I like this statement! Ships should be one hell of a loss to a player. If it is sunk, it should stay sunk. People should want to protect his ship at all costs. The whole durability system I do not like, maybe I'm too hardcore, but I managed to play my character to Flag Captain, and my crafting skill is 32. I am crafting all my ships myself and it really is not such a big deal. I just think the durability system cause players to be too slack with their ships, and once they get to a 1 dura ship, its useless. Its basically cannon fodder. This is when people start ramming each other etc instead of putting up a decent fight. Why should certain ships be allowed 5 duras and others only 1, losing a ship is a big loss, it doesn't matter what lvl you are. Craft and mod your ship as good as possible in order to give you your best chance to win a fight. Aye, with the new combat system I say all ships must have only one dura. Rebel Witch Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 ever since potbs this type of game has been obsessed with durability on ships. i think its silly. why not let us build 1 ship, 1 dura. that way the cost of building them goes down also. people will say well that would suck because of the upgrades being lost every time you lose a ship.....yeah well why wouldnt they when a ship goes to the bottom of the ocean? if this game strives for realism over arcade play, 1 ship build = 1 dura or 1 ship is the answer and take away limits on the amount of ship we can have in port or at least make it A LOT more. 1

And increase the drop rate of non craftable mods in both pve and pvp, and make more mods craftable.
mikawa Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 I have to agree on that except that I don´t think we need a system to replace lost durabilities. Maybe not, but why not let the winner of a battle (either by capturing or flag lowering) decide whether he will have the enemy ship with 1 dura or he wants to replace a lost dura of his own ship by using up the materials of the captured ship to renew his own. Might be quite appealing.
Pugsy Hurley Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 oh yeah, 1 dura would be awesome but not everyone would be happy about this I guess. Perhaps ships should be cheaper then...
Thonys Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 (edited) oh yeah, 1 dura would be awesome but not everyone would be happy about this I guess. Perhaps ships should be cheaper then... or you get the ship insuranced insured for modules and /or ship only but that is not in the game (yet) Edited June 15, 2016 by Thonys
Fastidius Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Duros bad design, make perms disappear on sinking but make upgrades and officers stay with captain uless surrenderthen lose all duros = bad design creates less need for ships to be crafted....10 basic cutter missions = a snow easily so it isn't like there is a price issue
mikawa Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 The dura system is not bad "per se" - what is bad is the fact that the last dura means almost nothing, because after loss, all your fav modules sink into the depths of the ocean, so everybody breaks or sells ships with 1 dura just to save the non-permanent modules. After last dura loss, the non-permanent modules should be placed automatically in free upgrades hold, only the permanent should be lost. And the duras should be the same for all qualities of a certain ship. 1

Blackjack Morgan Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 I don't see a problem with the current system. If you were to make ships only have 1 durability but decreased the difficulty in which they were produced what did you accomplish in the end? If a frigate gets 5 durability but you decrease the construction investment to 1/5th then I just make 5 1 durability frigates now. The current system is not bad design. That's like saying something you don't like the taste of is necessarily bad food. Could they change things and make all ships 1 durability? I guess so but I don't see what it would accomplish in terms of enriching the gaming experience. It also encourages only wanting to sail around in gank groups or speed rigged failboats because nobody wants to lose anything. This game already has plenty of people who don't want anything to do with a fight unless they have a very distinct advantage over an opponent and a further punitive system is only going to encourage it.
HarryButpain Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 (edited) i agree that the dura thing is a bit odd when you think about it.. I think the upcoming crew thing and them gaining experience might add to the 'importance' of your ship. Maybe allow us to name it, too.. I also wouldn't mind a short history for my ship like who and when did I sink a player etc.. It's all about immersion Anyway, we all know what happened in potbs when we make pvp too hard or intimidating for newcomers to get into.. New players will have a harder time than us to get into pvp and we should keep that in mind or you'll always fight the same few players one day.. But ye, if all ships had only one dura they would be cheaper, too.. So only a couple of missions would be good enough for a new player to get a new ship.. Dunno bout modules which you can't craft though.. Edited June 15, 2016 by BACk ALLEY ShENANiGANS

But think of this... Upgrades only cost 2 notes instead of 4. Quailty of ship still requires same number of notes... Because lets face it a Gold 2-4 to 3-5 is a LOT better then a Grey 0-1...... Make them all 1 Dur... It wont hurt so bad losing a ship. I go out in 1 Dur ships all the time... if it sinks it sinks... it is just Pixels The dura system is not bad "per se" - what is bad is the fact that the last dura means almost nothing, because after loss, all your fav modules sink into the depths of the ocean, so everybody breaks or sells ships with 1 dura just to save the non-permanent modules. For each his own i guess, but i would cherish the idea of capturing an actual ship from a player, not one fifth of a ship, not one fourth of a ship, but the actual god damned ship.
