Hi Guys

It's come up recently that perhaps, for greater PvP and enjoyment the Spanish Nation should be rebuilt.

Therefore I've started this thread just to get a general feeling from our server's population, and perhaps to organise formal agreements regarding the resurrection of the nation, should people want it :)

Regards,

Juan

As a leader of a US clan on PVP2 I strongly concur. I understand all too well the desire to see one's enemies driven before them, but the pragmatic fact is that driving a nation to extinction is not in the interest of PVP activity or overall server health. The PVP2 server has seen a tremendous drop in players over the last couple months as people have left the game or migrated to PVP1. In order to draw more people there and make it a vibrant and fun place to be, all nations must be active and well represented. If a nation, like Spain, seems to be underpopulated then those in larger nations should lay off them and allow the nations to grow further.

I can understand taking the vast swaths of Spanish colonies which were indeed historically lightly defended, but ample ports should have been left for Spanish players. I think it would be in the best interest of at the very least the US to withdraw from several Cuban ports and allow them to be retaken by the Spanish. I think the British would be wise to follow that lead.

[edit: disregard. "PVP2"]

edit2: Although actually, after playing Spain on PVP1, I imagine the problems are similar:

Cuba and the Yucatan are so spread out. If you want to defend a port, you need outposts nearby but "nearby" probably means "inside the very port you intend to defend". And then 95% of the time there is nothing going on there so your outpost is just a waste of a slot.

The French/Pirate war was so much fun partially because the Lesser Antilles is a dense collection of cities on small islands. One outpost can serve a fairly good number of cities for defense (or harassment). The Western Cuba/Yucatan area is mostly just boring.

I think Spain will always have problems until a better conquest system gets into place. Having 24-48 hours notice of a port battle would help a ton, for example, and allow Spain to actually get out for defense when and where they need it.

I feel like we are close enough to a reset now that it's probably a waste of time to put effort into it. Let the devs keep working on the upcoming patch that may help a lot with the underlying problems.

It absolutely should be rebuilt.  And don't forget Sweden, same thing.  PvP2 would be much better off with continual live action from those factions.

I didn't see a proposal for exactly how, in your OP?  But diplomacy would be a start, per your light suggestion.

In regards to how the Spaniards could be built once more, I've started negotiations with the parties interested in the area. They have offered several degrees of support from ships to simple ceasefires to establish an actual base again.

With the low population on pvp2 and the crappy spanish capital why bother?

Havana has an abundance of Iron Ore, Coal, Oak and Speciality goods produced in the city alone. When I was spanish at the start of the game we really only needed the ports immediately around Havana to craft vessels. Cuba is an economic jewel compared to the other starting positions.

I too have been trying to recruit players to restart Spain. I have gotten commitments from a couple of US clans grant a cease fire should we try, but only 2 players I've talked to have wanted to join the attempt. We would need at least one entire clan to go, somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-30 players to attack and defend.

I would suggest not trying to settle Cuba but instead settle in the Gulf of Mexico. It's isolated and has enough ports for us to prosper.

When the time comes and enough players want to try I am in.

The US is too damn strong now, by far.
