NA doesn't get a lot of publicity - why not do what WOT and War Thunder do by providing famous YouTubers with benefits.

People like The Mighty Jingles. Give him admiral rank and let the SLRN show him the ropes! He'll make a video and straight away NA will have about 10000 new players!

there was a official poll in which veryone was able to vote weather or not the devs should give out press accounts.

The overwhelming majority voted for no.

The grind is part of the game.

To get to know all the different kind of ships you have to start from scratch.

And since the game allows for fun in each ship categories I dont see it as problem anyways.

Why not have someone in SLRN just start a youtube account and do the grind to gather publicity and then introduce the subscribers to Naval Action?

oh boy...

Well in that case i do believe the developers are in a big need op a public relation manager /advertise manager

before you know it, this game will be in the dungeons of steam...

press accounts are just core business of game development/advertisement

that poll you mentioned ,was a no go area...

Again, the game is in alpha and in no state to have press accounts flying around. People keep ignoring this for a reason.

Agree but i mentioned it more or less for Beta of cause...

Its too early

Getting more users now is sending water into the bucket with holes in it

Main leaks are

  • Conquest/port battles are not well done
  • UI

Jingles loved the game when it was session based battles. He will not like sailing long hours hunting for prey and then getting ganked repeatedly. He will say the game sucks and it will affect potential users negatively (even those who might love long hours sailing).

BTW will you take him to an important British port battle in a Santisima? If you do then its possible to get him to showable content immediately

We are very unorthodox

Have you ever seen ads for our games? Yet our first 2 hardcore games sold almost 400k copies combined across 3 platforms (PC/Mac/Ipad).

All of our content creators levelled up themselves. The question is why Jingles or other guy should get the benefit over lets say Dekie or Olav or Steelsandwich or Babay (indexcomfort)

But we might provide press accounts just before the release and we do need a program providing benefits for content creators. This will come but not now

Very much this.  Breaking the mold is something that I've been hoping for from a group of devs.  It's one of the main reasons I've stuck around.

Wow you must be a mind reader or have a Magic 8-ball or something...

At this stage it could hurt the game long term as its still very much Alpha.

I know this game 'will' do well.

Once all the bells and whistles have been put in. End-game properly established & lots of things to do in the grinding process.

It is at this point when the subject of press accounts should be re-visited.

Because they will bring in 1000's of players.

Frankly, he should join up with 0 XP like everyone else.

Let him review the process of leveling. Let him spend 100+ hours grinding his way to a 4th rate. I predict he, like most people, will hate it and see it as a pointless barrier to "the real fun" and he will quit long before then because he has better things to do with his time....like most people.

That's the kind of feedback this game really needs. Don't soften the blow for the YouTubers. Let them see what the game is really like and then let's actually listen to the feedback.

Dude seriously...

Do you honestly think that either BaronVonGamez  or PhlyDaily  to name just 2, believe that their press accounts for World of Tanks / War Thunder or World of Warshipstruly reflects the grind any of those games need to get EVERYTHING in their press accounts?

Or how often they mention "Oh by the way to get all the shit I have would be like 5000 hours in game. Minimum!!!"

The point being they get instant access to End Game Content. The end of that grind process... Which is where this game really shines IMO.

RvR, Huge 1st Rate PB's. Open World fights in the best ship types, screening fleets & even ganking.

Everything that makes this game great...

I see no problem with this at all. Its an Sandbox MMO it's always going to have a grind element to it.

that's a bullshit statement for 2 reasons

  • sea trials 1 end of march online was 0 - but you could get into a santi in 1-1.5 weeks tops
  • much longer progession increased retention and online never touched zero after OW introduction.

If you were right (about the real fun) 7000 of players would play in their favorite ship in april 2015 once they leveled up

In reality 0 people were playing when they could get something they wanted very fast

If it was so fun and fast (with pointless barrier) why online fell from 400 PCU in Jan to 0 in March when people opened their "the real fun" ships.

Your statement is wrong, but strangely you don't acknowledge the possibility of being potentially wrong in your post.

Which makes your statement bullshit to me (respectfully)

With all respect, but because we are all friends here, this is a bullshit statement from you, too.

Saying a player could be in a Santi in 1-1.5 weeks is like selling Nike shoes by showing a professional marathon runner, implying I, too, could run like that if only I had Nike shoes. In truth, I would buy those shoes and I'm just as slow and out of shape as ever. I will need a year of training or more to run like the man in the commercial. It's not selling the typical experience.

If Nike was honest, their shoe commercial would show a slightly overweight person sweating a lot and jogging slowly because that's going to be the typical experience.

So let's not bullshit each other on this. We should talk about a normal player playing a normal amount in a normal fashion. He plays a couple of hours each night, he wants to do economy and he wants to do PvP and he wants to get into port battles and experiment with the game a little. I submit that a normal player will typically need several hundred hours to reach max rank. It took me over 500 hours of "normal gameplay" (not purposefully trying to grind but just playing normally). You reduced the XP requirement by about 40% and missions are better now so let's suppose a new player today can do it in about half the time it took me, so 250 hours.

At 4 hours per night, that's 9 weeks of actual, typical gameplay.

We did this because we saw potential in where the game was going but I did spend a lot of time doing not-fun things in the anticipation that it would lead to fun things.

This is what a YouTuber would experience and that is the game he should review. If he loves it, great! If he hates it, then maybe that's useful feedback too.

If he gets into a Santi in 1.5 weeks then he is not representing what a typical player will experience.

If it was so fun and fast (with pointless barrier) why online fell from 400 PCU in Jan to 0 in March when people opened their "the real fun" ships.

Because it lacked depth. And that's what many of us hope the open world (and diplomacy mechanics and so forth) can fix for us.

The open world is what helps make all fights feel different. Really this might be my 50th Trinc vs Trinc fight but it can feel different because, thanks to the open world, something different is always at stake. If I lose this battle, we lose the port. If I lose this battle, you'll sink my friend's cargo ship full of iron. If I lose this battle, I have one less durability to defend this area with and I'm trying to be a thorn in your team's side and catch some more traders. I don't want to die, not just for this fight, but because of the open world situation around me.

The open world brings meaning to fights, and that's what helps people stick around.

But the open world is mostly a battle between 5th rates and better.

I think if we want any new player to have fun quickly -- including YouTube personalities -- we need them to get into 5th rates as quickly as possible and then we need a good open world with good mechanics and good politics for them to get involved in.

We're very close to having this! I think I speak for a lot of people, including many who quit, when I say that this game shows strong promise for release -- one of the best new games I have played in a long time. But let's speak realistically about what a new, average player will experience in his first 100 hours or his first 1-1.5 weeks of gameplay. It's not going to be sailing around in a Santissima. That would be bullshit.

I would bet that the typical player, at the end of his first 1.5 weeks, is still in a 6th rate and is still not getting to experience what a lot of us consider to be the fun stuff (serious open sea PvP and deep water port battles).

Is that a problem?

That's the question.

Well let me rephrase my overall request here, then:

Let's show the press the best part of this game.

But don't tell me the leveling game is fast and fun and awesome and enjoyed by most people and then sort of shuffle your feet and mumble something about how it would be nice if the press didn't have to see that part. You think leveling up is great fun and well paced and really enjoyable? Well show the press that. Let them experience it.

If you're ashamed of that part and are afraid the first hour (or first 100 hours) of gameplay doesn't really do it justice then maybe we should agree that there's a problem. Why doesn't the first hour do the game justice? Can it? What can we do to make everyone have a good play session and not just the press?

I feel like we are just lying to ourselves in here, that we sort of recognize it's not fun and we sort of don't want the press to see it but we don't want to just stand up and admit there's a problem -- a problem that the typical gamer will be faced with.

This ^^ I agree with... As this is typically the intention of giving out press accounts in the first place my friend.

As for the rest of it, I really don't get your argument.

Kinda get the impression your arguing for arguing's sake...

But im sure that's just me... ;)

My argument is really that this game should be fun whether you are in hour 0 or hour 500. We should be just as proud to show the press 0 XP as we are to show them max rank.

There should literally be no reason to give the press special accounts because our regular accounts should be just as much fun. Everyone loves leveling up, right?? That's the best part!

If it's NOT, then we have a problem to discuss.

Is Naval Action really a commercial game for the flushy flashy youtube community? Honestly I uploaded some fights to youtube and got some views. But those fights are min. 45 mins long and the 12 -25 year old youtube Community most need boobs and fast acarde Style gaming. Also the UI isnt really "nice" at its state atm. For me I didnt saw any Video about Naval Action. All I saw was the Steam reviews by tons of players and i bought it. Now i got catched from the games depth.

It would be awesome, if all Players would create something like a "Best scene" Contest where they can send their self cutted things to the devs and it will be voted for it. I was thinking about building a Website with similar functions. Anyone interested to support something like that?

With that way you would get more views on youtube but only show some cinematic scenes from players - so that those scenes are more authentic and gameplay based.
