Hi all,

For what understood there is only 2 ships having built in bonuses for boarding, the pirate frigate and the privateer.

What i also understood is that the bonus is a morale boost, the privateer getting something like 130 morale instead of 100 on regular ships, don't know for the pirate frigate if it's the same or more morale bonus.

Questions are :

- Is there any other bonuses in boarding that are not visible ( contrary to the morale boost ) ?

- Is there some other ships actually in game having boarding bonus built in ?

- And is there some other ships not released yet but rumored or in preparation that could get a version with a boarding bonus built in, like the lovely Rattlesnake maybe ?

Thanks

PS :

Also wouldn't it be a good idea to give a boarding bonus to a ship like the Niagara that is not able to enter shallow port battles and already was and became even more fragile since last patches to favor diversity and roles of ships in game ?

I'm not sure if it does anything else than this, with the correct upgrades in gold quality on a ship having default 100 morale you can raise it to 150 , those ships can raise it to 180 if both start at 130 morale .

That's why I'd like to know if they get other bonuses hidden, i don't know maybe a bonus similar to what barricades or boarding ladder and ropes upgrades can give.

the thing is, if you lose 100 morale, you're already smashed so hard you had no chance to win boarding to begin with. I never thought "Oh boy, I would have won that boarding if only I had had more morale"

Pretty much this, beside some very rare occurrences where it can end up in very even morale levels for both and this can be avoided by reducing a bit more the crew on the ships attacked.

That's why I'm wondering if there is any hidden bonuses beside the morale boost, if not then maybe the boarding bonus should be something like boarding parties can give, restoring more preparation points per round , just a slight bonus.

Will be nice to have Admin giving some answers to those questions.

Interesting Hethwill, thanks.

Would like some confirmations or other feedback on this, all this is really unclear and not easy to see though

Thanks.

Surprise has a hidden attack bonus according to many. I like all this hidden stuff its great :) Watched a video of a guy taking a third rate with a surprise with a full compliment of crew without firing a shot.

That was his 40% marines, not any sort of surprise boarding bonus.

Indeed. Regardless its commonly thought to have a boarding bonus. :) We (people who think this) could be wrong however only the devs know the hidden stats ;)

well, I just boarded a LGV in my St Pavel.

Either the deck height difference works both ways, in which case this post is moot, or 20% marines are just that good.

my 830 crew vs his 260, with 20% marines (ie 54)

Attack vs Fire Grenades was an _even_ trade. 15 vs 15.

Even when he was almost done for, that only improved to 20 vs 15, at 11 morale.

Getting crew shocked at some point did not do anything either. The trades remained the same.

So from my experience, neither morale nor a crew shock have any effect in boarding combat.

Also the math of marines just counting double can't be right.

I thought that marines added a good plus to musketry - they seem to give good results with musket volley.

Yeah - but for some reason, this only applies to our marines. AI ships have a lot of marines, but very low musket counts.
