Mirones Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 an 18punder is an 18pounder no matter how old
Destraex Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 ok if game staarts in 1690 i guess there is not much change
Mirones Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 well maybe some diffrence in terms of sailing performance but the old ones have the most style
Destraex Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 I agree. The older ones do look better in terms of decoration. The newer ones have better lines and are probably out tougher. I must look at when vvictory was launched.
AKPyrate Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Victory was launched in: -1569, a 42 gun ship broken up in 1608 -1620, a 42 gun great ship. She was rebuilt in 1666 as an 82 gun 2nd rate ship of the line, and broken up in 1691 -1675, a 100 gun first rate launched as Royal James, renamed Victory in 1691, and burned by accident in 1721 -1737, a 100 gun first rate ship of the line, wrecked in 1744 (wreck found in 2008) -1764, an 8 gun schooner that served in Canada and was burned in 1768 -1765, the most famous Victory, 100 gun first rate ship of the line, currently preserved as a museum ship. I assume you meant to look up just the latter Victory?
Destraex Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 Exactly. Just the latest one. I was just trying to illustrate that some of these ships served for close to 100 years. Victory ended her active career in 1812 actually. 47 years of active service. I wonder what the longest serving ship of the line would be. 1
Baggywrinkle Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Bear in mind her pretty extensive refit 1800-1803... A lucky ship, in many ways. Baggy
Thundershield Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I wonder what the longest serving ship of the line would be. This might be a possibility: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_ship_Fenix_%281749%29 Launched in 1749, broken up in 1836.
D. Federico de Gravina y N Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I like the idea for have some periods to not mix ships from differents times
Destraex Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 This might be a possibility: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_ship_Fenix_%281749%29 Launched in 1749, broken up in 1836. Nice 80 or so years of service. I do like 80 gun SOLs....
