ok -- just in short -- just trying to ascertain the right things to do .. versus -- DONT DO THAT! (smack upside the back o' your head!")

These are fairly simple straight forward inquiries -- nothing too difficult... I hope.

If playing, lets say a character from the  "United States", for example.

Who can I attack?

1) Obviously any "Other" nationality boat I see, AI or Player operated, correct?

2) What about "United States" AI traders carrying Contraband cargo?

3) What about attacking another "United States" Player, Operating a Trader with "Contraband" cargo?

     - Will this change my character to Pirate?

     - or is that (*turning Pirate), if they are NOT carrying Contraband/another Warship and I attack them?

Characters?

4) Can I create additional "characters" (ex: United states, France..etc...) on the same account/PvP server? Nasically have one character created for each Nationality.

ex: I currently have a United States character going. Can I back out (log off) -- then start game back up, and create a British one, or any other nation, and play that as well? Or, would I have to DELETE my original character first, to create another? I am not so much into the "conquest" portion of the game -- more so than the Battles, ranking up, and basically establishing myself. - Never been one for politics!

Crafting?

5) Crafting/BP's: I did notice that once I created my US character and went to check on the crafting side -- my XP level is there. BUT all the BP's that I had "drop" for me, on the PvE server are not. Do I have to "re-earn" them? Is that possible? Do the 2 different servers (PvE/PvP) differentiate along those lines, that I CAN get the aforementioned "Dropped" BP's to "re-drop" again?

Thanks,

-Yank

1. yes, however your nation council(i believe all nations have that at this point) have a peace, alliance or war state with other nations, This is not represented by game mechanics yet so you will have to ask nation chat

2. Go for it, it is just like PVE

3. Players dont operate traders with contraband cargo, if you attack any of your nation you turn pirate(including AI without contraband)

4. Currently it is one character per server.

5. you have to get the crafting blue prints again, either by crafting or trading.

Dont make assumptions now, one thing to keep in mind is that there will always be rogue people and groups that dont align with nation politics.

Like Olav said, you will always have people who just aren't bothered by diplomacy and people who just don't know what the diplomacy status is between nations. I would expect these people to be mostly clanless lower levelled players. These are the kind of players you'll usualy meet around nation capitals and safe zones on the map. Higher ranked players will usualy be in a clan, and will be well aware of the diplomacy between nations or will at least ask around first before attacking.

If you get ganked by a player from an allied nation and don't feel like fighting him, you can talk to him about the peace treaty between your nations, and if he is in a clan maybe even threaten to go talk to the clan. I would guess your chances are 50/50 he'll just abort the attack.

The majority of the people who play this game i find to be surprisingly mature, and eventhough an enemy will always fight to win, they'll most likely are willing to have a chat or do a little "gg" at the end of a battle. Makes it more fun then just making fun of eachother like were a bunch of football hooligans....

ok -  so I am trying to ascertain targets. I am one of those new folks -- not really really new -- I have achieved Flag Capt status -- but that is because of my PvE account. That said -- its the ROE that are truly daunting to me at this moment.

I see a trader (regardless of Nation) carrying Contraband.. and I want to attack it. Now if my Nation has a "treaty" with that targets nation ---- do I still have to honor it, since it is an AI. I would definitely do so, if it were a PLAYER owned vessel. BUT! ....just don't see the rational with an AI controlled one.

So is there a Difference in how the treaties/alliances are respected in relation to AI vs Players?

Thanks,

The AI traders don't contribute to the economy of the nation they belong to, so it doesn't make a difference to a nation if an AI trader is capped, nothing to worry about. But at this moment the whole diplomacy thing is player based, and is not bullet proof. So always be on your guard when going near allied waters.
