Howdy all

This is just a general discussion regarding the new land in battles and how it has brought in more immersion to our playing world, when i actually learnt about this game back in 2013 i think it might have been and read all about it i got the impression that the open world was going to be like the new land battle instances.

I envisioned jumping out of port and seeing all these ships docked up then setting sail on an adventure of exploration and discovery, using the spyglass to pick friend from foe sailing passed and seeing ships battling off in the distance with the sound of cannon fire rolling over the crashing waves against the hull of the ship, it might even be a plan for this game down the track some time further, i love the new land and dynamic it brings to the game, you feel like your right in this world and experiencing the excitement of the time period.

What were other older players take on the game when first discovering it and waiting for the first initial pre purchase? How do players feel with a full world of just being in the battle instance dynamic? Interesting in discussing peoples views on it.

I thought it was a nice added feature that we've been able to trap ships to land if tagged appropriately.

The trader in this pic kept trying to avoid me by tacking to land, eventually trapping himself at the shoreline, lowering sails, and just waiting for me.  So almost all the strategy was in the tagging.

In the picture, on the left is the cliffs of Marin.

Nicely played sir, its an awesome feature thats for sure, i don't wanna leave the battles and just sail around exploring in that style, sure it takes a long time but its far more exciting when you reach land and get amazed by the sheer size of the world in there and go pull up to the docks and much more.

I honestly am in love with the fact that land is now in battles. I engaged an LGV right outside Brunswick, and the town itself was there in the battle instance! I felt like I was being watched by the townsfolk as I stopped this contraband raider ship from its travels of no good! I felt like a hero!

Until I opened the hold and found out it was carrying nothing but logs....live oak and teak to be exact.... -_-;

Still, this land in battles feature is AWESOME! It makes the game so much more enjoyable, and the fact there is very very minor fps impact is even better!

This game is seriously becoming my favorite, and should be viewed as what all EA game companies should strive to be like. =)

Yes the latest patch has transformed the game. Much more immersive, much more exciting in terms of Open Word tags and fighting etc, and will make more maneuverable ships more useful as before any old ship had infinite water to sail about in. Not any more!

Plus it looks gorgeous! Better every patch..... I love it.

Very much in agreement, love it. Best single addition so far for me. Now give me some enemy forts along shore lines to bombard with the new Brig and i will be a happy chappy for sure!

In its current form I feel that if anything it has highlighted How "static" the relationship between the "open World" and combat instances are.

Putting land in has had the opposite effect on me and has left me with a gimmicky and nonsensical taste in my mouth.

Until there is more focus on the relative "space" that a battle occupies :ie the actually physical sea room/area that a battle is taking place not just a weird "time compressed calculation" that just guesses how  long battles go for and restricts players from entering.

I hit an Ai trader right on the tip of land next to Carlise.  It was an immersion killer. A big empty static instance.

At first i was like wow there's Carlise....... and after a few seconds it dawned on me .. this is not the direction i thought the game was going when i purchased before Christmas.

You asked the question of "full world in battle instance" ... thats the type of direction I'm more in-line to agree with.

I'm fully aware its an alpha at this stage , things may change over time but this feedback relates to "what my thoughts are now"

Yeah it was always a disconnect between open world and battle instance which was similar to POTBS where we had no idea on what was happening in the outside world, then to leave the instance and be surrounded by ships friend and foe alike, its 1 of the disadvantages that these games have.

I guess a main issue most players can have is time, some people have it others don't so that was probably the main reason these systems were implemented so we can get a taste of the real open world in battle while still having a compressed open world to move around quicker, I'm not sure on the initial plans, they might even do a more realism server then the more casual compression server for those that wanna play different styles all i know is that there is potential for anything and time will only tell where they want to go :)

I wish I could pack Mount & Blade character management, Total War land battle mechanics, Vicky 2/CK2/EU4/HoI3 depth and diplomacy, NA boat mechanics, and an EVE super-server to house the entire multiplayer population I'd put all into one super game.

A man can dream.

Until that dream is realized, I play them all independently for hundreds of hours at a time.

What are your thoughts of sailing around in the battle instance over sailing around in open world?

Pros and cons?

It would take for-ever to sail anywhere.

Maybe it could be made to work, I dunno, but you might find a setup where the ratio of sailing to fighting is like 50 to 1. (Or worse.)

It would be a game where you really have to have Netflix up while you play. (It's actually that a lot of times even now, at accelerated open sea travel speed.)
