I would really like to see islands and ships raise behind the horizon when approached. I always find this impressive on the real seas and it would be great to also have it in the game.

What is that "earth curvature" you speak off? It sounds like madness! No! Blasphemy! Yes, Blasphemy! Next thing you tell us is that there is land beyond the edge of the disk that Earth is made of ....

Oh wait, watched too many episodes of Vikings today.....

While I agree with the idea, fixing the draw distance (pop-in effect of sails) and make other ships fade into view more gradually again is a more important step in optimising graphics in open world at this point.

But we can never ask for enough improvements to our shiny toy, can we? :D

Schnablo, I do like your idea.  Seems like it would be a long, difficult change in programming for the Devs though.  Besides isn't the earth flat and wouldn't we fall off the edge?

Not really. The only change would be made to end-user visual side of things (computations would not see any curvature), and as such could be done by a simple modifier.

Not nothing, but definitely not "long and difficult".

Hmm, then I say +1.

To Lieste's comment, IMHO the added element of timing differences in sail sighting would be a plus as a game feature.  If trading were further developed, it could also be a feature for small traders attempting to avoid warships.

I would love to see this, but there are definitely more important things that need to be done first.

If this were to be implemented, it would either have to draw ship sails further out than the current distance as they approach, or all clients must be forced to use this feature so it isn't abused.
