This game is really amazing how it immerses you and seems more realistic than any naval action game on the market. i have an idea that may help with that realism and immersion.

you know how you have a scale at the upper left to show your ships armor remaining and how you can see your enemy (or ally) ships damage accurately too by pointing at it.

I propose removing that entirely and replacing the damage meter with a more realistic crew defined judgement of the ships damage.

For example at the upper left of your screen now you may have half armor left. In my proposal you would only see a message that says "medium damage to port side"

When you point at an enemy vessel, instead of seeing a very accurate detail of a ships armor remaining, you would see a crew message replacing it such as "heavy damage to port side, light damage to starboard side, light damage to sails"

going even further you could have crew messages "we are taking on water" and "flooding to port, heavy flooding to port"

perhaps if this game progresses it may incorporate listing to one side due to flooding so you would see a message "ten degree list to port, medium flooding to port, heavy damage to port side"

this is just an attempt to immerse players in what captains may have had to deal with in real battles. they didnt have fancy meters showing them ship damage they had to get crew to tell them and had to use judgement as well.

these sorts of things can decide many battles and adds to the beautiful complexity of naval action.

just a thought
