Rebel Witch Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I remember POTBS, we all had to side with one of the nations, that pitted us all against each other for the glory of someone elses king and purse or pirate. naval action is taking the same direction, we are all pitted against each other fighting for ports for other kingdoms and does it really matter long term? I have played EVE Online for over 10 years and one of the most immersive and enduring long term draws for players is the freedom and ability to create your own empires. I propose the same thing be done with naval action for a healthy long term player draw. Give the traditional kingdoms like spain, britain, france, usa, etc about five core ports each and those can be the starter new player areas. However 90 percent of the ports on the map will be free for players to conquer and create their own empires. Spain could have five ports around havanna, france could be around new orleans, britain jamaica etc etc. Naval action is in a period when new nations were starting to pull at the chains of the european powers so why not let players be those revolutionaries? You could have a clan take a port in a battle, that clan assigns a governor to that port and it would become that clans capital. capitals are a bit easier to defend, they have limited costs. however when the clan starts to take more ports , the further the ports are from the capital the more pressure and costs come with it that way you limit player empires from getting too big. imagine dozens of player run nations vying for power and territory and resources while new or casual players can give their allegiance to a European king in their navy but they would not get nearly the access to fruits of players labor.
