Since 9.7 went out, I've been noticing this trend with AI ships in missions: one will be sailing right towards me at the start of a battle, like normal, and I'll position myself to sail past it closely in order to get in a broadside, and then at the last second before we start passing, the bot will turn right into my path. I don't know if they're trying to cut across my bows and bow-rake me, but are mis-judging the distance at which they should start turning, or if they're deliberately trying to get me to sink by ramming them. At any rate, they're usually so close when they do this that I may not have time to avoid them and may be left no choice but to hit them, or in the case of fleet missions, I may have friendlies on either side and have nowhere to go. They don't always do this, but out of the handful of missions I've played since the update, I think it's happened at least three times. The first time, I was in a Belle Poule and the bot was a Niagara: I wasn't expecting him to turn and ended up ramming him broadside, but we both managed to survive. The second time, I think I wasn't as surprised when it happened and managed to dodge by the skin of my teeth. The third time, I was in a fleet mission with my Belle, I had friendly AI on either side, and this Cerberus turned into me as we were getting ready to broadside (or so I thought we were). I couldn't help but hit him, and I'd just managed to extricate myself from him when I sailed squarely into the bow of a Frigate. I don't think the Frigate was trying to cross my bows like the others: he was just in the way, and I wasn't able to react and turn in time after shaking off that Cerberus. Anyway, between the two hits in such a short amount of time, I nearly lost my ship right at the start of the battle. Anyway, 1.) is this a bug, and 2.) has anybody else encountered this behavior? I'm interested to know.

i just got rammed 3 times by the same pickle, he took no avoidance at all just came straight at me, not sure if captains of Rome are in command but seemed a bit wierd that they would lay down their lives in this way.

Same problem here. Yesterday i received several damaged when an AI st. Pavel in my team turned in my way. I was in a constitution and have a big leak and many bots in enemy team shoot me when i was blocked by the Pavel.

This should be fixed as fast as possible.

I just played a flag captain fleet missions with some mates last night and not only did the AI ram my mate in a 3rd rate but it gave a full broadside to him too.

 

It was like the AI couldnt figure out we were there and tried to run/shoot through us to hit an enemy AI on the other side of us...

Got similar situation yesterday during a mission. Mercury turned straight under my bow instead of passing broadside to broadside. I think AI is trying to make a bow rake, coz I`ve seen similar turns on few bigger ships too, including St Pavel (was able to avoid due to their slower turning).
