Okay so I just played a mission in my Trinc against an AI Trinc, and I noticed a large difference between the number of crew my long guns were killing compared to his medium ones. The damage to hull was more or less as I expected (Meds doing more damage to 1 side but my longs going through both sides of his hull), however he was killing 2-3 times the number of crew that I was; he got around 50 crew to my 20 or so. We were firing broadsides on a rough 1-to-1 basis, and I'm not sure the slight damage increase of the meds would be enough to do this. Was I just unlucky or is this a thing now?

I think it's because you're overpenning, mediums only pen one side, and the splinters + the ball bouncing around the ship killing the crew. You are just going straight through, not killing as many.

Also depends on where you are aiming.  If you are aiming below the decks at the water line, you aren't going to kill any crew.

We were hitting in about the same place on each other. I was expecting him to kill more crew, but not quite as a much more.

AI generally aims low, well below the gun deck. During battle the only crew in the hold would be the ships carpenter and mates, surgeon, purser and cooks. If you want to kill crew at at the gun decks.
