Willum Povy Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 (edited) 1. Add a tab in port so you can see who is currently at that port as well and what ship they are crewing. (If you dock at a port in real life, you're going to see other ships.) This will help prevent pathetic carebear gank squads from sitting in port for hours waiting for solo players to leave. You will now know that they're there and you can leave at your own risk. Also, your name remains on the port list for a minute after you un-dock, this allows proper time to drop canvas and if you ARE chased you can give a proper chase. 2. Remove invisibility, I don't even know why this is a thing. The other choice would be to put a timer on port re-entry so you have to go visible before re-docking. 3. Trading ships should be allowed an extended yardarm upgrade and an extra canvas upgrade, allowing them to run at 130% sails in battle. This forces enemies to carry those same upgrades, fore-going their normal upgrades, if they want to go out capping traders. Even if the increased speed came with a decrease in maneuverability it'd be worth it. (I'm aware of copper plating and speed trim, those are for the hull, we need something for the sails.) 4. Battle Timers should not exist whatsoever, you can't get from any one port to another within 2 minutes, why would reinforcements be limited to a window of that time? Ridiculous. Engagements should remain open to either nationality fighting until they are resolved by sinking, capturing, escaping, etc. This would make grinding mission more enjoyable as well because you have the option to sail around helping new people with missions without the requirement of grouping. 5. The "pick-a-side" mechanic is retarded. If the United States and Pirates are in a battle, the Spanish should not be able to engage under flags of Piracy or the United States. (until diplomacy is worked into game) (In this respect diplomacy shouldn't be open to pirates.) This would solve mission ganking issues from all factions, except pirate of coarse. 6. Pirates should have to defect from a nation, not be their own nation. (Which means I agree with pirates not being able to port cap and no nation chat) 7. Pirates should be able to sail under letters of marque, improving their relations with a certain nation to the point where national players can't attack them. Being a Pirate they can abandon these letters at anytime and re-engage piracy against that nation. Their mission system should be based off these letters (sack ships or raid cities of nearby nations for rewards). 8. All Ships should be renamed for the type and class ship they are, not real ships that existed. Seeing Dutch and French players in a ship named Constitution isn't right. 9. To go with #8, You should be able to name your ship. 10. Contracts from other nations should be removed from ports once you've capture them. 11. NO OUTPOSTS IN FREEPORTS. This prevents nations from bouncing in behind enemy lines and forming massive gank squads where waters should be relatively safe. I enjoy PvP a lot, but I shouldn't have to worry about getting port ganked around freeports deep within my nations lines. If you want to harass your enemy behind their lines, sail there from your closest nations port.12. You should be able to hire AI trading escorts with no level cap. The higher rank you are, the better the escorts you can hire. (Incentive for people to put more time into the game)13. Teleport function should be disabled for ports that have been captured be another nation. If you have production buildings there, recap the port. 14. You should be able to hire a crew from your outposts to sail your ships to another outpost of yours. 15. Why does every AI ship carry marines? Stupid I had more but I can't think of them at the moment. Edited April 11, 2016 by Willum Povy 1

This would be a really bad idea. making traders almost imposibble to catch with common ships. In real life a fully loaded trade ship would be slow and an easy target, and therefor a trader with a high value cargo would never leave port without an armed escort 4

But it seems you didn't read the whole post. Those upgrades would be available to any ship, so if you wanted to capture a trading vessel that utilized them, you'd have to have them on your chase ship. Frankly if you're too lazy to put them on a chasing ship you don't deserve to catch a trader. 1
Michael JD Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 All my +1. These are great ideas but I also think it can go further. 4. This is probably my favorite. If you start a fight then pay the consequences if he has friends especially considering this is Open World.
dolleet Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 choose a side is a left over mechanic that was added when the online was lower in testing to allow more varied battles And it must stay in game. Our clan got lot of fun from OS pvp exactly because of this. We found that even our small comunity can participate in huge battles thanks to our french and pirate allies at british waters. Choosing side is epic and must have thing. Yesterday we met unespected french fleet near Carlisle and appears they was running from stronger british fleet. But together we smashed them! Viva la France!)) 2

In regards to mission ganking, it's a ridiculous mechanic. And once diplomacy is implemented you'll still be able to fight with allies. Also, once the servers merge you'll have plenty in your nations to mount your own attacks. No reason to keep junk mechanics because you choose to play on a dead server.

You should be able to hire a crew from your outposts to sail your ships to another outpost of yours. 15. Why does every AI ship carry marines? Stupid I had more but I can't think of them at the moment. I see a few problems with these, as well as some very good ideas. 1. The problem here is if a player has an outpost and multiple ships, which one do you 'see' if he changes ships right before he leaves, or do you see all of his possible ships? 2. I think invisibility when leaving a port can definitely be done away with, but invisibility after a battle gives you a little chance to get away in case others are waiting to jump on you. Especially if you've just escaped from a superior force, it would be frustrating if they could just follow you and keep tagging you into battle. So that little bit of time gives you a chance to chose a direction to flee without them knowing. 3. No thanks. If anything, trading vessels were a bit slower and often under-canvassed historically. Heck, many were 'cut down' rigs (i.e. removing excess sails) to save costs to the owners. Plus, they'd have a smaller crew and thus wouldn't be able to trim their sails for optimum speed, whereas a fighting ship is over-crewed and they would generally have the ability to sail much faster (if the base boat speeds were comparable, of course). 4. One problem here is that there is a time compression in OW that would allow a vessel much farther away than realistically possible to render assistance in a battle. So, someone could call for reinforcements, and ships would just keep on joining the fight, leading to a never-ending battle. 5. Admin already commented on that. However, if rendering assistance to two non-national sides, I like the option (unless we get some sort of diplomacy going on as well). 6. I like it! I'd also perhaps suggest that the 'pirates' be broken down further to these different original nationality pirate factions, thus helping to decentralize the pirate 'nation'. 7. I like the idea, but think it needs further refining. Letters of Marque should be relatively expensive, perhaps limited (based on price) to certain ship rates, possibly limited to attacking certain other nations (as they were in real life), etc. Additionally, only being able to hold one LoM at a time, losing reputation with that nation and making further letters more expensive if you return to piracy, not being able to attack those nation's traders withe contraband on board, and other limitations would be good. These are just a few ideas off the top of my head, but the main thought is that the system would need refining. 8. Generally, yes I'd like to see some sort of standardizing in ship names. I wouldn't mind 'Constitution-class', and don't think that other nations should be banned from having a non-national ship due to the restrictions in number of models of all nationalities that are available. 9. I'd like this, but honestly that and flags has been brought up multiple times and I think it might be one way in the future for them to make extra money by charging for these non-essential bonuses. 10. Yep. 11. Great idea! 12. Not quite sure what you're going for here. Do you mean hiring a trading ship that you can have 'escort' your fighting ship so that you can keep loading it up with captured booty without heading back to port? Or do you mean hiring an AI armed escort for your trader? 13. Honestly, I didn't know you could teleport to an enemy port, regardless of having an outpost there. The only thing I would like to see here (and you might be able to do it already, I'm not sure) is 'destroy' a building in an outpost there if it's captured by another nation and looks like you won't be getting it back. 14. Maybe, but there should be a pretty decent delay (less experienced captain) and some risk of the ship being captured/losing a durability in the OW if you choose this option to ferry a boat around. 15. Agree. A trading ship shouldn't have Marines, and really anything frigate or above for every player should have at least some minimum compliment of Marines, with the numbers either increased or decreased with various modifications.
