Gysendorf Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) Hello land lubbers! In the Danish-Norway Navy there is a big ammount of land lubbers who don't know a proper ship shape signal report of enemy fleets or ships. I guess it won't be better in other navies with so many land lubbers. So land lubbers of what information consists a good signal report ? Nation Fleet or Ship Positioning relativ to the next harbour Heading, which direction the fleet/ship sails (East or west ...) If possible more specific would be good. Consistence of the Fleet (how many ships and which rate) Information if you are following/chasing (If you plan to get an attacking fleet) An example: "Signal report! British fleet WSW of Amalienborg heading West, in the area of the west cap of Amalienborg, consists of one 3rd rate, two Trincomolee, one Belle Poule and two Frigates, I am east of them and following." If you cannot write with 10 fingers a ship shape signal report as land lubber, maybe a shorter form is a compromise: "SR: GB fleet WSW Amalienborg heading W, 3rd, 2 trinc, belle & 2 frigs, follow E behind." For only one ship signal report you replace the word fleet with the type of ship. So godspeed land lubbers Gysendorf P.S: See Acronyms list for shorter shipnames if you cannot type with 10 fingers, see -> http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/6821-acronyms-list/ Edited June 13, 2017 by Gysendorf updated to mega patch 10.x 1
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 We keep it simple. - W of F.Oran. 2 frigates, headin NE ships descriptions get divided in 3 categories small ships frigates SOLs no need for specifics.
Eishen Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 your list lacks bearing, much better in Hethwill example "headin NE"
Gysendorf Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) Right I forgot heading, so updated. But actual I have most time to read: "Enemy fleet near VQ." Edited April 5, 2016 by Gysendorf
KuroNyra Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) In France we have something else: <<Hey, there's a fleet near ### - Ally or ennemy? - IDK. How do you tell? - France or another nation? - Another nation. - WICH ONE? - IDK it's in English. - WRITE IT! - K. - It's ### - Ok, going where? - To the left? - Wich cap? - Cap? - North? South?! - A little bit to the Nort,, North-West. - How many? - A lot - How... Many. - At least 7 or 8, there's a big one with them. - What ship? - Victory, and some others. - .... And the rest? - 3rd rate, Bello, belle and reno. - How many of wich ship? - IDK. 2 reno, 2 belle, 3 bello, and 5 3rd. - That's more than eight. - Ho yeah there's some French with them now. >> Edited April 5, 2016 by KuroNyra 6
