I've added 3 more ideas to the list

-----------------------------

1. Avoid the use of 'you' in disagreements. It can be seen as too much of a personal attack.

This is how the UK houses of parliament works - members refer to 'the right honorable' and debate is (mostly) quite civilized

So from now on I will try to refer to even the most blatant idiot as a 'respected captain'. But, joking aside, there are few idiots in this community - just people with different opinions and different priorities

Formal language can be useful and may also help with point 2.

2. Separating game debate and role playing debate

In RL the French are much respected. I love going to France and really like the culture. And, in game if I say something against the French contingent it's because of point 3.

3. Taking the piss out of your mates (making fun of them)

I'm not sure how widespread this is - but in the UK at least we take the piss out of our mates. And it's a sign that they are our mates.

It should not be mistaken for a personal attack if we do it to nationals of other nations. We are just being friendly.

4. Trafalgars

An unrivaled opportunity to fight on the same side as your normal enemies

5. Unnecessary national references

If there's an interesting and useful discussion about a possible game issue or exploit - perhaps avoid derailing it by unnecessarily bringing nationalities into the conversation eg. "Funny how a Spanish player wants to talk about port timers".

6. Code word 'banana'

= I feel that this line of conversation is not productive or fun so I'm going to step out now (or change the subject?)

'banana' doesn't claim victory or admit defeat. And it's surreal enough to perhaps snap the thread out of it's negative vibe man

7. And of course...Emoticons

As your jokes may be misinterpreted

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These thoughts are just for interest. I'm not saying that anyone should follow them - so ***** off if you think I'm being too PC   :)

regards

Except an opinion is always expressed by a person and people in a game are not members of a public institution.

I do not know your honorably/holy/add here any positive adjective you like person, but my far from honorable/profane/add here any negative adjective you like person is fed up much more with the excess of political correctness in language that with the random idiot that could address me with some random insult because he has no argument to bring.

To me NA is an institution and it is public. And it is entirely up to the individual as to how 'politically correct' they want to be.

My post was just a humble analysis of what can cause toxicity and how those who are interested, can possibly take steps to avoid it.

To you, as you say.

Yes, to me as I say. Which is why I said it. Are we clear now?  ;)

I dont have any idea what youre talking about with pulling piss outa people or giving them piss or whatever, it all sounds pretty gross tbh but down where i live friends give each other troubleband make fun of each other all the times. Its the people we dont mess with that should be scared.

I know some guys on the forum think im mean or a bully or whatever because i say exactly what i mean with no sugar coating but its never ment in a malicious way. In game if anyone has fought me knows i love to harass my enemy and poke at em but its never in spite and every fight ive had ive always said good fight nice try did what i could etc and given em a o7.

I think my gruff personality my offend alot of Europeans but believe me its not personal.

See what I mean. And as you are trying to chastise me for saying something stereotypical you yourself are being stereotypical by asuming i watch cowboy movies or have not traveled. Ive traveled everywhere just fyi.

I wont post again OP since what i said must have struck a nerve with mr so and so like always. Hes just to ready to be offended.

In Australia we call our close mates C@#%$ and people we don't know Mate, true story, only in Australia!

Australian are weird, I knew it! :D

(Most dangerous place in the world, how do you want to be sane there!)

(Who am I kidding? We do similar stuff in France. But with French class! ... So basicly no class at all. I HATE MY COUNTRY! Except the Baguette)

Well, I gotta go with BANANA. Good and good for you.

If I don't insult my friends then it just gets weird. We're guys, we can't help it. There is always profanity involved. Most of the lads I work with are ex military and we work in aviation. They are all idiots too. I love them.

I knew that about Aussies.

Apples are good too, BTW.

I do try to be civil in chat and in forums and one can substitute FRAK for the F line line line word. Thankee Ron Moore.

This turned in to a fun thread.

Bye Fraking Butt Heads. With all due respect.

Calling an Aussie a C@#%$ is dangerously close saying that you love him

FYI code-word 'banana' is not an apology - it's totally neutral way of ending a non-productive or fun line of conversation - it doesn't claim victory or admit defeat. And it's surreal enough to perhaps snap the thread out of it's negative vibe man
