Mostly what I know of the PvP servers is what I read in the forums and hear from my fellow captains on the PvE server. I went PvE, when I started sailing again, for two reasons. First being that I needed to learn to sail again. Second being, that from reading the forums, there is a lot of MMO play going on. In that I mean ganking, zerging, griefing, ect. Is this regular play on PvP? Please let me know.

The other thing I keep reading is that everyone has a First Rate and that's all that's they sail around. Is that true and if it is, where is the fun in that.

I've played a lot of AOS games. I usually pick a frigate. In PvP I would like to have a good frigate duel or a multi frigate furrball. Is this possible on PvP as is.

Is everything dominated by clans/societies/fleets. Can a lad log on for a few hours and just have a little fun.

Is there enough PvE opportunity even though every one on the forums who play PvP seems to detest the "carebears". Is a casual(meaning a player who can only sail a few hours a day at most due to real life) even welcome? Are crafters sneered at except when someone needs a new ship? Are traders lambasted in chat for just trying to supply the nation. If a fella wants to log on to just take a quick sail and have a quick fight before bed, is that viable?

I played POTBS for several years. I was in a society. I helped put ports in contention. Had some port battles. I even did econ and hated it. I had fun. I had regular friends. I also had problems with some of the hard core players and their attitudes too, the MMO'ers, as I refer to them. Good, fair fights did not mater to them. Ganks and play only to win at all cost attitudes really put me off of MMO's. When this game came up in Steam Greenlight I got really excited. I bought in to Sea Trials and went on the forums to help shape the game. I stopped sailing for a while but kept an eye on it. When it went EA(not the evil Electronic Arts) I started sailing again and haven't stopped. I love this game and have very high hopes for it. I want to get involved in RvR, PvP, and join a Fleet.(better name than clan IMO) I want to get as involved as time allows me to. I would rather avoid drama, I watch the TV show Nashville for that. Don't get me wrong, I ain't a crybaby and can handle some BS, but when it starts getting stoopid and un-fun, I'd rather retreat and fight bots on the good ol' PvE server.

What I'm looking for is for someone to SELL the PvP server to me. I'm doing fine on PvE. I'm having fun and I like the people there. I just reached the rank of M&C and to grind enough traders in The Mighty Yacht to get money to buy the ships that I want, on PvP, will take a long time. Will it be worth it.

I've sailed a little on both PvP servers and did have some fun chasing a RAT away from PR but other times I didn't see a damn thing. As stated, I'm doing well on PvE and getting what I want out of the game but at some point I will want more. What I really want is to mostly have fun, to interact with other players, To take place in RvR again, and, in case I didn't mention this, HAVE FUN.

I know that we are in alpha and there is still a lot to work out. I am or will be willing to do the grind to have good game play on PvP but I need it to be worth it and most of all fun. Again, I only have so much time to play. To add, my only interest is not PvP only but the other aspects of the game as well.

The main question is: Will I feel welcome on a PvP server regardless of my play style. Will I have fun.

Soap Box Time: The Adonis like devs have given us an outstanding game so far. It's up to the player base to make it worth playing. I don't want to disparage anyone but from the forum posts PvP does not look promising or fun right now. Granted that it has been said that most forum posters just have a big butthurt they want to troll about, and I have seen that. I've also read a lot of good posts out there too. I read the forums on a regular basis BTW. We cam make this a epicgreat game. Canvas, wood, and gunpowder, electronic or not, are the good things in life.

Thankee for your attention. Will appreciate your replies.

My best advice. Try it out, ask questions in nation chat, people will answer your questions. And I think everyone will welcome you.

For griefing, zerging, and ganking, its just a thing in mmo, it happens but you can avoid it.

For SOLs, no, remember its pvp so 1st and 2nd rate are for big open world battle or port battle, you will see mostly frigate and 3rd rate sailing around but at home water, you can see some 2nd and 1st rate doing missions but it might backfire (pirate). And 1st rate has only one dura so people are super careful with it.

And in pvp, nothing is useless even a cutter, if you are sailing in smaller ship and dont have much time, you can join any screening fleet so your time is super flexible, you can join anytime you want and leave when you need to.

(Fyi: we won a lot of battle thank to our screening fleets)

Lastly, this is your game, you can play it however you want but be a gentleman, even if you are a pirate people still love you.

1 more, Im playing for the Dutch.

EU PVP1 is all I can speak for.

Generally speaking there's enough flexibility for both PVE and PVP.  Where you conduct your business will have an impact on this as some places are more PVP hot spots than others.

Ganks happen, nothing can change this in an MMO, but as stated above, they can be avoided.  A gank fleet rarely moves through your waters without being reported frequently on nation chat so stay switched on and you should be able to avoid.  Of course there's always the poor guy who's first to report their presence, if that happens to be you, there's still ways to avoid a gank.

There are people sailing around in 1st rates but at there's more 4-5th rates. This may change when everyone is max rank but I doubt it.

My best advice is to find a 'good' clan that aren't obsessed with PBs and enjoy both PVE and PVP. If it's PVE you want do higher level missions as a clan. More XP, and less chance of being ganked plus good banter and fun.

As for whether you'll be welcomed, I'd say sure you will. Again this will probably be more or less a factor depending on what type of clan you join. You're always going to run into enemy ships who will try to sink you and sometimes there can be some smack talk, but that shouldn't deter you. Keyboard warriors exist in all MMOs.  Just don't sink to their level and you'll be fine.

As Doschichis says. Give it a go. If it's not your cup of tea, go back to a PVE server and continue enjoying the game.  Spend some time reading through the clan forums and see if one sticks out as a potential clan that fits your needs. Try to go it alone, and you could end up getting frustrated. This game IMO is all about the clan.  I sail solo frequently (by choice) as it draws less attention to me pirate activities, but also sail frequently with other clan members. We also usually always have an XP AI fleet group on the go, so really a good clan will give you more flexibility, variation and security if you pull your weight and get stuck in.

Let us know how you get on.

Tell you what. Come to Pvp2 6 hours after your initial post. Join Great Britain, be at Port royal and call out for me. I will give you a 5th rate ship and some walking around money to give it a good try. Pvp2 has a low population but the people left are not the balls to the wall griefs and arsehats you are concerned about.

Give it a try, you might like it.

My name in game is also Atreides, just holler

Pvp2 has really started to feel like a "community " even with the enemy. Also , ive never sailed bigger than a suprise and i do well.

Im actually gonna miss pvp2 if it gets merged.

That's actually really good to hear.  I've been of the mind that people should give up on PVP2 and head to PVP1 to give us ALL a healthy population, but I think PVP1 is fine as it is and if PVP2 is doing better now, good on it!

I like the PvP servers .. both PvP1 and PvP2. Play mostly on PvP2 for no particular reason. I've never been ganked or griefed or zerged on either server. (knock on wood).

Although I don't pay much attention to the chat in game unless I am asking a question. I've met some very helpful people.

I've not tried the PvE server but think it would be fun too.

But it seems that the PvP offers the excitement that comes with increased risk and the added opportunity of battling against a human opponent.

I too will be a little disappointed if the servers are merged. Having the choice is handy ... especially if the population spikes.

PvP2 is coming back. Lots of great PvP battles and the community is regaining strength.  Hopefully it does not disappear with a merge.  That would be highly disappointing.

I spend most of my time on the PvE server. I have done well and enjoying the atmosphere of that particular style of gaming. I do go to PvP when I want a challenge against a human opponent, but that is not my first choice. I had started on PvP1 before the last wipe and found PvP2 to be a better bet for me (ping rate). Even though PvP has its challenges, I prefer operating in the PvE world.

All in all this is the best game ever. There is such beauty in the world, from the foam moving on the surface of the ocean, the vegetation growing on the terra ferma, and to the detail and operation of the ships. It can be a clear day or get caught in a hurricane, there is a wide variety.

Play where it is the most fun for YOU! Only you know where the joy in the game lies. Don't be bullied into thinking the only way to play is in a PvP location. For some that is their only view of the game, Others is crafting, and now resourcing is an avenue for adventure. Have your own goal and then try to obtain them. And there are a number of people like me where PvE is my mainstay.

There are a great number of people here to get to know that are knowledgeable and dedicated to helping make this a great game and experience.

I'm sticking with PVP 2.

I thought about switching servers and even taking a break because of all the players who moved from PVP 2 to PVP 1.

But I like it here in PVP 2 and I'm not a crowd follower.

If PVP 2 could get back to 50% of PVP 1's population I'd be happy with that........and it's starting to happen ( maybe ) .

One nice thing about being on the lighter populated server is for players who don't want to be in the thick of things and often under threat of attack......... there's lot's of space to do your own thing.

And if it's pvp or port battles you want then go to the front lines.......lot's of it there.

And a merging of the servers is not a sure thing.......the only sure thing is that there will be a server wipe sometime in the coming months and Naval Action will keep getting better.

I agree and if the pvp1 poachers would leave pvp2 alone we coukd be over 500 by next week easy by the amount of new faces i see.

Leave our players ALONE pvp1 ! We done want to be on a European server.

I think PVP 2 getting to 500 at peak times is a bit of a stretch for the foreseeable future.

Too many clans and players migrated to PVP 1.

We need to get some of them back.

Plus of course those in the forums calling for people to move from PVP 2 to PVP 1 need to stop.

PVP 2 seems to be headed to 300-400 at peak times which is better than 200-300.

It was at 600-900 before a few players and even some moderators began encouraging people to go to PVP 1.

why so racist about servers.  eu servers are servers too,  when the blow smoke do they not have tiny blue smurfs in their cpu's as well?

seriously tho, why do you care where the server is,  if you say ping im going to get very annoyed because i'm an Aussie playing on the EU server and it affects very little.  if we took the EU tag of and put MAIN instead would that solve it?

Something else that doesn't help the player numbers on PVP 2.

Having PVP 2 shut down for hours during prime time with no explanation.

........PVP 2 has been down almost 5 hours now and still no explanation.

Maybe the dev's are trying to make players on PVP 2 either move to PVP 1 or quit.
