You mention that the "Optimized Ballast" upgrade lowers your speed as well, yet the module description does not give any information to support that. Are you absolutely sure that optimized ballast gives a speed penalty?

There is no reason for optimized ballast to reduce speed, as far as i know it only reduces heel, it does absolutely nothing else as far as i know, if it does id love to see some numbers on it.

Ballast has no effect on ship speed, no idea where I got that from...putting it down to a hallucination after several days at sea running Trux to PR. Sorry

Haha, it's cool - I just thought this might be one of the hidden things that are not pointed out, like so many other features the devs want us to figure out by ourselves

Point of note. The reason you are having trouble catching stuff in your renomee is because ships, as you've noted from that chart have optimum speeds in different wind directions. To know which ships travel fastest at different directions is key to catching and escaping.

 

For example, you will catch a privateer quite easily if you're both travelling with the wind behind at 150 like in your video, but you will never, ever, never, ever catch it going in the exact opposite direction, not matter how many speed mods you put on your ship. Pirates & others who tend to sail in hostile waters know these things.  Most of the pursuers don't. Quite often I'll look through me spy glass and see the captain of a Renomee scratching his head as I leave him in me wake.
