Ahoy, sit and have a grog! Someone who have got their hands on an Essex? How is it compared to the Trinc?

It has not been long since she was launched, but there has been little talk of her?

I have my hands on her, you can see some stats of her on the (unofficial) Naval Action Wiki. The essex has less armour, less guns is slower however she turns better than the Trinco and her speed is only .2 knots slower, they have similar crew with the essex having 315 and the trinco having 325. The essex also really suffers from the fact she has no chasers what so ever.

I think it should be compared to Frigate in Handling. Am I wrong?

Essex is .1 worse in turning than the frigate but is .3 knots faster.

So, armament and crew make her a boarding/support ship? Why would you pick Essex over Pirate Frigate? .3 speed is not that much.

Yes, i would say so, especially considering her lack of chasers.

How is the stability? I heard it heels quite a bit but dont know if its a Trinco-level of heeling or better.

imho the heel on the Essex is not too  bad, however it is noticeable.

Shouldn't the Essex be compared to the Frigate in armament as well? I mean, you can't really compare her to the Trinco when the Trinco has 10 more guns...

Seems to me like they added another coaster to the 280ish crew category. Why would anyone use an Essex over a trinco? Seems like it's worse in every possible aspect other than turning radius?

I would use it in a group with Frigates that's about it.
