admin Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I bought the game after watching videos like these: People tend to remember great moments from the past (and bad moments too) Those videos are examples of the great moments from the sea trials. You don't see videos of early ST where people were ganging up on 1 side (before autobalancer) or running forever or damage farming (just before closing the sea trials) or empty ST when people voted for OW and were just waiting for new ships and new content. Basically there were bad moments in ST as well but they were fixed or forgotten. Before battles were forced onto players by a battle circle of death ST were really really bad. Moments that you shown on the videos happen both in large port battles AND on the open world a lot still. and happen a lot. Small events balancer has flaws and will be improved of course. We are now focused on the land in battles all other things can wait. ps. it can sound like a bad joke, but naval action is an experience and long boring moments of doing nothing were also part of the life of the Age of Sail Captain 2
'Sharpe Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Lucky Shot, I think the core of the problem is that you're trying to do everything solo. This game is best enjoyed in a group. Clan, guild, or just casual groups - whatever your style, you'll have much more fun in a group than alone. -Trying to craft your own ship, solo, is incredibly masochistic. Clans working with resource chains can turn out scores of new ships daily. You may be responsible for generally supplying a certain resource or material, so you can still do crafting, but you won't be stressed about finding each and every component. -Because you'll be spending more time in a group, it's also easier to capture AI ships which can be used for fun risk free PVP. If you lose it, all you lost is the minimal time you spent capping it, and you should have had fun doing that anyway so it wasn't time lost. -One of the most important assets in this game is information. If you know where the enemy is, you can find great fights. Being a part of a clan dramatically expands the real time information available to you, in a way that is never replicated on nation chat. This saves time and helps maximize the time you actually spend in combat.
KrakkenSmacken Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 (edited) Omg, I lost one of five duras!! ALL HANDS, ABANDON THE SHIP! WE'RE DOOMED!! Maybe make it so that you can refill dura by capping other players which sail the same class like snow vs snow or whatever? Dunno, I think such people only need to get pushed into it like therapy lessons where they confront you with your phobias?? That would actually be a pretty cool mechanic, I really wish we could name and preserve our ships. Take a 1 Dura ship of the same type and instead of "break up" make it "re-fit to" a second ship. Has a 1/Old Dura Chance of working to replace a lost Dura (no limit) (two single dura ships always work but re-fitting a 4 Dura ship with a 1 dura ship works only 25% of the time) It would be easy to keep a single dura ship afloat, chancy to replace that 5th Dura. Requires a shipyard 1/5th of labor hours (and gains xp), and craft level equivalent to what builds the ship to begin with. Edited March 21, 2016 by KrakkenSmacken
HarryButpain Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 (edited) So OP basically wants to play 'small battles' world of tanks style where you jump from session to session without any open world pvp? Is it not possible to cap one dura ships in npc missions and use them for 'small battles'? I only ever tried small battles when I started playing in a basic cutter so I don't rly know if you can use one dura ships in small battles but with let's say one outpost to store such 1 dura ships shouldn't that be the best option to join small/large battles? Edit: As far as I know is there no way to escape small/large battles and even with an exceptional vessel and killing half of the enemy team by yourself you still would lose with your exceptional vessel when all your teammates sink and you're alone vs. a bunch of other vessels.. Nope, if you manage to survive 30 minutes then you can disengage and flee if you don't take damage for two minutes just like in open world, as long as you don't stay out of the white circle for more than 5 minutes.
KrakkenSmacken Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 (edited) Short answer... here. (As a Pirate I have serious issue with the title, and the OP totally missed the previous two battles that day, probably because the Brits didn't even get to see the port ) See the full thread for two more Vids Last few weekends...lots of chasing around and standing off....this weekend the Pirates and the Brits slugged it out are Parrot Cay, in 3 massive pitched battles, both sides thought they won, the Brits sank alot of Pirate ships...the Pirates sent a Victory to the bottom (using Taliblam immolating 3rd rate tactics ). It was simply great fun. Well done all for taking place....lets have more like this....you earn more XP and Gold in two hours PVP than you would in a day of mission grinding...and you have all the fun of the biff. Hurrah....and bring it yer scurvy dogs !! In this battle we had just left a large 20 on 20 battle, about the 3rd big engagement of the day....and as we came out....there were bajillions of Pirate dogs chomping at our heals...much fun ensued in a 25 Pirates take on v 18 Brits in a battle of major proportions. Oh and next time I record a battle, Ill be more conscious of commentary...I was kinda overly focused on not sinking or ramming a clanny. Edited March 21, 2016 by KrakkenSmacken 1
