angriff Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 (edited) This game has 500 players most of the time and nobody sees anybody until there is a port battle and 4 people can make it in time to defend with the little and cryptic notice that is given. The rest are left grinding AI ships or something. Trading is going on and there is not visible way to know where these traders are regularly where you might go and see if you can possibly go raid. The game needs the map to be active and show where the player concentrations are. a different color for 10 maybe no color of 3. Maybe a big red square where there are 14. It should only show those players you have selected so you dont see the Swedish if you are not a war with them Players will be attracted to hunt in these areas.. they need to be not completely up to date but only an average over the last 3 minutes or so. Traders will want patrolling friends to help so player will see each other more often to fight outside of ports battles that are hard to get into Edited March 19, 2016 by angriff 1
Long Beard Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Personally I think it's a terrible idea.Part of the fun is the hunt for players to plunder. Start showing where those players are and you'll end up with massive zerg vs zerg or simply gank.I still struggle to understand why people have such a hard time finding PVP. I seem to find it everywhere I look. Perhaps you just need to venture into enemy waters more often maybe? 1

Well when you talk with new players as I do you find they have played the game for weeks and have not seen a port battle since it is too far for them to get into into it in time. They spend endless hours fighting AI to rank up. If they venture alone into an area they get ganked. There is no strategy in the open water except endless patrols of nothing. I went with four players up into the British Area and ended up attacking a 3rd rate NPC because the Brits were all over some place else attacking an empty port to capture in 20 min.

You can sail for hours through the extensive US and British holdings and rarely if ever see a player ship. I've had this experience many times on both PVP1 and PVP2. It's maddening - why go to the trouble of capturing all these ports if you're not going to even visit them, let alone trade in them? It really points up the futility of the map-painting exercise that is the current RvR situation. Hopefully enhancements come to the economy, teleport system and the way NPCs interact with players to ensure there's some meaning behind holding a port, especially one quite far from a national capitol. Because I'm getting pretty bored of just sailing around "behind enemy lines" with nothing but NPCs as far as the eye can see.
