Ahoy captains!

This is my first post but I've been playing the game for a few weeks now and I'm really enjoying it for a bunch of reasons that I won't go into now. Today I found another reason to love the game.

I'm a Lt Commander playing for the British nation on EU PVP1. After watching several of our home ports fall into the hands of the Danes and Pirates I decided to take up patrol on the coast of Jamaica while things were fairly quiet in off-peak time. My objective was to annoy the enemy and at least show some resistance to their occupation of our home ports.

While sailing somewhere near the port of Savannah I encountered a player-sailed Pirate Trincomalee and decided to attack in my Cerberus. I immediately realised my over ambition as his first broadside knocked a planet sized hole in my hull...but rather than my opponent berate me as a foolish noob that had offered him some easy XP, he engaged me in conversation. We discussed the reasons for my attack even though he had the advantage, as well as our nations' current diplomatic situation while he continued to cripple my poor little light Frigate. I persisted that as a British vessel sailing in home waters it was my duty to harass the enemy when the opportunity presented itself. He pondered this as his crew continued to ram powder and shot down their cannons.

With my vessel taking on water by the barrel load, I was beginning to regret my decision to put the nation before my personal property. Iron shot rained down on my beloved Cerberus which was now down to it's last durability after a hard life under an 'enthusiastic' captain. All was lost, the men were praying to the gods of the sea and thinking of the family they would never see again when my opponent sent a message across, which read as follows...

"I respect you for attacking me. You're floating a Cerb, even if you're an excellent sailor you'd still struggle to challenge my ship. But you attacked me because you were defending the home front. You're not affiliated to any clan and you're not being a dick over chat. So, shall I continue, or would you care to head for the horizon and we'll both leave this battle with dry feet?"

I could hardly believe what I was reading. My experience of PVP in this game so far has been that the enemy will be ruthless and a fair fight is hard to find, let alone a merciful, gentleman of an opponent.

With my last breath I shouted "Thank you! I will not forget this act of kindness!" as we turned rudder and sailed away from each other, escaping the battle on a mutual agreement.

This one encounter has shown me a hidden gem built into the core of this game. It's populated by people, and just as people can be complete planks, they can also be good, honourable people. Everyone is fighting each other but ultimately a shared respect for each other as opponents and their respective nation is what could make Naval Action such a unique experience when compared to other MMO's, I'd love to see more of this sort of thing and I will keep playing because of it.

Also, rum.

^ agreed, I appreciate the mature player base this game has and I much prefer this type of PVP combat than other games. Teenagers screaming down the mic or incomprehensible abuse spammed in the chat box really ruins the immersion and enjoyment of any game. Long live this particular player's attitude and alas, I didn't send him any gold. But the fact he didn't extort it out of me also shows that his act of mercy wasn't base on other motives. Good on him, shrouded recluse we've spoken in game but I sail under a different name to my forum ID and you've shared some valuable thoughts in those conversations too.

It's a shame that there is not more people that have your type of attitude in this game or in any other game come to think of it, and that can take what happened with a pinch of salt forget all about it and move on.

I have been a hard-core gamer for over 30years, and I can honesty say that this is the very first game without the abuse and toxic chat that I see in " IN GAME CHAT "  I am not saying that it hasn't gone on in this game but if it has gone on then it's been dealt with straight away that its very rare that you see it in chat IMHO, and every game has it's fair share of trolls but not in this game.

This game I think is for the more mature player and middle to older generation age, I could be wrong with that statement but that's how I see it, it's a man's thinking game grouped with teamplay and the knowledge of how shares work to earn a profit when to buy and when to sell, that is the fun in trading so you won't get to many kids on here because that is far too mature for their brain to cope with, anyway I could go on as I hav'nt even touched the surface but that is leading away from your post.

So to finish off welcome to Naval Action enjoy the game and welcome aboard the high seas.

I very much enjoy banter with the enemy. Weather in character or not its so much fun if both parties are involed. Ive only ran into a few sour apples and jerks.

I believe the pace and scope of this game drive those people away. I had a fight with a brit yesterday morning , cerb vs cerb. He had caronades and i had longs but fkr like 20 minutes i could not hit him amd he only hit me a few times ( tjat hurt ).

I said man we both suck at shooting. He laughed and we started talking the rest of the fight. Then i hit him with all my guns once and he said wow how you do that? I said i just realized i didnt have my guns set to lock and distance lol.

A few more broadsides later he ask me to please go back to the other setting. I had to disingage to go to doctors but was fun and i look forward to our next fight.

We Pirates appreciate a good challenge and have shown mercy at times to a good Captain from the opposite side. ye we only want to sink your traders, capture a port, fight the fight. It short I agreed w/what is spoken above. This game is meant for fun and a good community of players no matter what flag you choose to fly under, their is no room to be rude to another player no matter his/her experience i the game.

Salute !!

May you have far winds and following sea's   o7

It is nice to read stories like this one. It makes me realize that, maybe, sometimes, rarely, the behavior of some players is similar to real captains. Gallantry is not impossible to find and I appreciate the effort (from players and devs alike)  to build a community of people able to respect each other even if enemies. A community where enemies are not to be ridiculed, made fun of, or verbally abused.

Thank you Darwin88 for sharing your story. It reinforces the hopes I have for the future of this game.

It's really hard. There are often people with provocation in chat. Last time it was a piratr 1 vs 1 so not an excuse but I hope some understand I was also not nice after his acting.

I am always up to fair play if it's ... well fair.

I wonder if he would do the same with a clan member. I mean after his talkings where is the different between a player or a player with clan tag?

Anyway nice to see some sportsman.
