The port battle issue & Ranks, a different take on it

So long story short, a month from now all deep water port battles will be 25 on 25 Santissima and anyone with a smaller ship will get yelled at for daring joining. This essentially removes lower level players from the port game...

 

Here is my suggestion to change and fix this:

 

1. ALL port battles are 25 on 25. Any missing player on either side is replaced by an NPC captain.

2. If you get in "late" you take the place of one of the NPC captains

3. All port battles have the same loadout on both sides, 1 Santissima, 2 Victories, 3 Pavels, 5 3rd rates, the rest is a mix of lower class ships

4. Upon entering the port battle, all players chose their ship preference in whatever order they prefer

5. Server decides who gets what ship, giving priority to higher ranked players, players that can actually crew the ships. People who actually entered the battle with a fully crewed ship and have those as priorities have a higher chance of getting this choice, using THEIR ship instead of the AI/nation provided one.

6. Ships are adjusted in quality/upgrades based on what ship you entered if you cannot use your own ship

7. Any player that joined and ended up with a ship bigger than he can crew is provided full crew for the ship he has

8. NPC ships would be balanced in terms of upgrades/quality to match the other side (ie: The other team is all yellow/liveoak ships, the NPC on your team would be yellow/liveoak but theirs would be grey/fir to rebalance gear somewhat)

9. Any player showing up late would replace an NPC-captain, getting it's ship in the current state it is in.

10. You would still have to put a proper-sized ship on the table to enter AND lose it if you get sunk.

 

This would allow ALL rank of players to participate in port battles and bring back the outcome of these battles to SKILL rather than RANK or GEAR. Having a higher rank and good upgrades on your ship or a good ship would still give you a slight advantage, but not a dramatic one.
