I'm new to the game but I really like it a lot. If I could suggest one thing I would like to see incorporated into the game is:.

A dot on the map of your position. I don't want way-points or the ability to to set a course but just a simple dot on the map.

No, thank you.  That we have a map at all was a huge concession from the Developers - they don't want you to have GPS.  Navigation is actually quite easy once you get the hang of it - we really don't need GPS in my opinion.  

 

I would, however, support you marking your own map with where you personally think you are.  That would be quite good.

Actually there where ways of knowing one's position, we definitely need some map tools and the ability to “set course" in OW; being able to trace a course on the map knowing the exact azimuth and to steer the ship there, no autopilot, just a better compass. (And maybe a sextant if you get lost in the middle of the sea)
