Howdy,

Again, love this game - Kudo's to the Devs.

I was subjected to an issue last night while attacking a Trader Brig, in my Trader Snow.

About 25 minutes into the battle, and after having fired several rounds and reloaded (with no issues) - I find my ship NOT reloading Cannons any further. I gave space to my prey, to assess this issue, in hopes that it was just a time thing. My Gunnery crew was maxed out at 24 crewmen on that task alone-- but after 15 minutes there was still NO progress in either side of my ships guns. They read 0, and no progress bar (circle) was even started. I had NOT initiated a Boarding action build up,(so no crew were drawn off there). There were the standard compliment of crew assigned to the sails (<13). My Cannons just would NOT reload.

I was trying to reduce the crew of the Trader Brig with Grape, so as to make boarding faster, but after 15 minutes of down time (not reloading), and my 2 fleet cutter vessels reducing the Brig ship to less that 4 boxes of hull, I figured I had better board it, while there was still a ship (and cargo) to get!

The Brig had 56 crew - I had 61 .. short story, I ended up losing my Trader Snow. Normally I would not have even attempted to board until the other ship was less than 1/2 of my ships crew .. but again, I had no way to reduce them further without running the risk of sinking the ship, due to MY GUNS not reloading.

So, my question, what would cause my guns NOT to reload? They (guns) were not destroyed. And my crew was NOT in shock. And!, 24+ crewman were allotted to load them!

Another inquiry,... why do Traders, with aft firing guns only (Brigs) or no guns at all (cutters and lynx's) - get to fire their deck guns in melee, when boarded by the sides or if you cut them off at the Forcastle? WHAT "deck guns" are they firing in a boarding action?

Thanks,

-yank (Aka: Baron von weisencracker)

Did you hit f11 and submit a bug report? Not much can be done though the forums beyond guessing and inferring. Sounds like you made some sort of an error or there truly was a bug. As for losing your trader snow, you shouldn't have tried to board while outnumbered, simple rule of boarding, especially when boarding AI who always have a considerable number of marines. And as for the fire deck guns, that is a temporary bug. It has been stated by staff that eventually you will actually fire you guns instead of just clicking the option.

yes, actually submitted 2, once while I was in that 15 minute period waiting for them to reload, and the second after the battle was over and I had lost my Snow.

Yeah, I knew I was taking a chance boarding him. IT was either that or leave him totally to be sunk by my cutters. Which completely would have defeated the purpose of the battle out right.

Decks guns firing from the target, when they should have NONE present, is the problem I have during melee. NOT my own guns firing... I position my ship to take FULL advantage of all guns (even if it is not evidently an "important" element in the actual action itself, as it seems) by that I mean, the targets being able to shoot guns that are pointing 180 degrees away from my ship! -- OR, using "Deck guns firing" option in melee, when they DONT have ANY, altogether!!!)

Thanks for the reply though,

Next time, press M and tell your cutters to bugger off (escape) when they've outlived their usefulness (you could also just order them to take down the sails instead).   :)  That will save you from them sinking your capture targets.

As to the situation, that sounds really odd.  Hopefully with your F11 reports the developers can make sense of what is going on.

pressed M, when I saw what was remaining on the Brigs hull, and set them to demast. Did a nice job, some-what.. he was down to about 43%, but NOTHING was reducing the # of crew!

again, I know I should have just exited, and checked to see if it was a fluke in battle by taking on something much smaller (trader cutter) .. but after spending close to an hour taking him to that point, I felt I had too much time invested, and well, ... just choose poorly!

But the no reload is really bothering me! hoping it was just a one time fluke though!

Did you have boarding on? Also, did you try toggling the crew settings?

I noted that, under boarding, the load indicator was for one cannon at a time. It would bump the number of loaded canons, but then reset the red circle as it loaded another.

That confused my quite a bit at first.
