Maintenance time starting at Midnight PST?  On Fridays and Saturdays?

As John McEnroe would say ...YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.

This is a World of Warplanes-level Bad Idea.

ok they said they are moving them back 2hours...i thought it happened at 2am pst..but i could be wrong...if so then it would make server maintenance at midnight for me.

It needed to be changed, because the maintenance was in the Aussie primetime. Now it will affect only a minority of late US players (3PM eastern time).

... don't you have anything better to do at midnight on a Friday night in the west coast...? :P

well i guess not playing this game will be one....... :(

even thought its only 1 hour at most...most of the time.

Doesn't affect the East Coast and EU/Russia much (if at all), if I am not mistaken those account for a majority of the clients..

hey at least the west coast will be able to play after down time to get those pesky time people put in on ports.

We moved it and announced it long ago that we are moving it

where have you been before to comment on the new slot?

Also new time slot has the lowest player count so it is affecting lowest number of players

PS new time slot is very uncomfortable for us devs during alpha as it makes patching harder. We i think even said that we will try new time slot but it it does not work we will move it back until we code in automatic maintenance (which is useless at this stage today but will be useful after release)

7pm AUS time and 9pm NZ time is not considered prime? I am confused. Either way it is smack bang in the middle of evenings for Australasia, but that is alright, I guess we arent the majority of players.

We will just need to be more casual, for those with jobs anyway.

The problem with server downtime is that it is always going to affect a certain # of groups of people, in this case it appears that the devs are attempting to choose the lesser of two weevils.

Oh absolutely, its just a shame a game I am very much passionate about makes it so hard to play =P. Well during the week at least. Maybe get three hours of gameplay in during an evening if you intend to go to work the next day. Sailing taking up say.....45mins to an hour depending and then to miss an engagement without chance of being able to stick around.

It is Alpha, and I appreciate this, and it is the player base as it is, more players, more excitement and action on your doorstep. So we shall see if the game continues to provide New Zealanders with the stimulus to keep it up. Australians have already gone through the same downtime slot, they seemed to continue to thrive, I guess I will need to put it into practice first.

But could not have asked for a game I cared about more, just one of those things.

As we always say players should participate more in the forums and share their concerns that other parties are pushing for changes they dont like.

Maintenance time based on the online count will be tested but we are not sure if it is good for patching. We will report back next week. In any case maintenance time must happen during the day preferably somewhere between 12 to 15 pm because it is best for patch deployment and allows proper testing and last min fixes if any are needed or found in the morning. (This unfortunately will mean it is done during someone's primetime).

They have picked the time with the consistently lowest number of players online. 7pm is not Aussie prime time, most Aussies are still doing real life at 7pm. Aussie numbers surge from about then though. Much better than maintenance being in the middle of it.

Thank you devs for this!

Totally get your point on the participate on the forums thing, I searched for a time for the poll for Server Maintenance changes, and was unable to find it. However patch thread did not mention it (as far as I could read). I also may be a scrub.

However ultimately I am a realist, NZ would make up perhaps.....1% if that of your gamer base, so putting it in our prime time is potentially the least risky thing you could do...doesn't make my tears any less salty ;).

Being in PST, this will affect me directly, but probably in a good way; I should be going to bed at midnight anyways :)

Keep the helm steady admins, you are doing a fine job, beware the urge to try to please everyone and stay true to your own dreams of the game (with input from sensible suggestions). Your vision of the game so far has been just dandy :)

No one is suggesting otherwise =P. Well perhaps the author of this post, I felt the 'It will bring and end to NA servers' was a little dramatic.

Yeah was a bit lost on the whole end of NA servers, I don't typically log in until 8:30pm ish eastren time for about 2 hours, weekend mornings if I have time.

Guess I will find out in an hour lol.

This was a complaint for years in another game that gets mentioned around here pretty frequently.  Until the devs of that game figured out how to get the maintenance window under 15 minutes, often under 5-10.  Then it goes from unplayable to mildly annoying which is quite bearable, imo.

I live EST but my playtime is late so downtime in it's current format (new or old) still hits me.  I was going to bed though with the previous time.  Now I guess I'll just Netflix for an hour?  /shrug

the server reset should be on a 23 hour or 25 hour cycle so it is either getting one hour earlier or one hour later , that way no one ends up with it stuck in their primetime for very long,,

Pretty much prime time for me in Australia. I guess someone has to be inconvenienced. Not to worry. Back after midnight now when family are in bed.

In a few weeks when the time changes, the servers will go into maintenance at 11pm, which will really statt to cut into weekday playtime for sure.

Already you can't really do much that last hour before downtime for fear of getting caught out someplace. When daylight savings kicks in that means I'll have maybe 2hrs at best to play in the evenings. Gonna be pretty hard to stay motivated with such little opportunity to do much of anything in a game like this where hours pass in a moment.

Anyways, yeah, chat was full of similar comments. This will be a good time for maintenance because soon there will be nobody on at this time, for the reasons stated above.
