Hat tip / salute to other players

Just a silly little suggestion I thought of last night, after seeing a few fellow Frenchman plying the waves.

 

It's probably been suggested before, but it would be nice in the OW to be able to 'salute' a ship, or tip our hat to a  fellow captain... just send a little OW notification that:

 

[DickNixon] salutes you!

 

(although actually firing a salute would be welcome as well!)

 

Right now, I would feel weird PM'ing people just to say 'hi!' as I sail past.

Now I feel weird.

I've often sent players a PM as I sail past. An "Ahoy". So far I've had lots of friendly replies. Usually there is no response.

Up till now I didn't think much about it. Didn't bother where the shipping lanes are crowded. But it's just something to do if you are in a low traffic area. After reading this thread I might be more self conscious .

I'd love to fire cannons in OW for just that very reason. Being able to perform a 13-gun salute every time you pass a Rear Admiral would be a very nice touch.

Usually I just throw a 'o/' or a 'o7' in a pm to the player.

Gun salute would be great, but i can already see the constant cannon fire in front of Kingston

Maybe with a looooooong cooldown.
