eriks Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Oak logs being delivered as part of the restoration of the USS Constitution in dry dock in Boston 5
Capt. Rice Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 lol they are making it out of oak ....basic crafters huh.....lol
maturin Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 is it plain oak or live oak? Ordinary oak from Indiana, I believe. The live oak scantlings aren't seeing much restoration work this time around. Funny how those logs make the ship look so small. It's suddenly easier to imagine putting a forest's worth into her.

Very very little virgin growth left anywhere.
Cragger Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 is it plain oak or live oak? Live oak doesn't come in the form of a log, at least not a straight one. And that's something the game gets wrong. Live oak is still not commercially available to this day. Because what made it good for scantlings and framework make it horrible for pretty much anything else. Not to mention that they have to be hand hewn so saw mills won't touch the stuff.
